The Wind Rises

I initially felt like I should watch it again before I did opinions Unfortunately, it did not invite to instant re-watch, like some Ghibli films have. It's got a lot in common with Only Yesterday, in that aspect: For being one of the most profound films I have ever seen, it was storywise uneventful.

But fascinating, and never boring. And I stayed home from work due to a bad cold. )

It's been over a year since I've seen The Wind Rises, but I faintly recall there was also a scene where Jiro & co. decide to make the pilot's seat out of straw to lighten the load. It stuck out to me at the time because in American history classes we were taught the straw seats were a factor in why Japan suffered higher casualties than the Allies. But that little back-fact helps color the main plot which was that Jiro really just wanted to create and achieve what was thought unthinkable for that nation at that time.

Nice to hear the additional facts about the spoken German, etc. too. :)

It was about planes with the fuel tanks in their wings, with the same end result :/ there was also this scene where Jiro was telling his colleagues about that time when the only time when the only way to reduce the weight further was to remove the guns. His audience thinks the suggestion is hilarious.

Haha, with Japan's (in no way exclusive) history of deciding to include foreign languages and then proceeding to mangle them beyond recognition, I was a lot more delighted than I probably should've been just to hear someone do it right *g*
