It's funny that you mentioned verb tenses. I was writing something recently and used a wonky verb tense and thought about how hard it has to be to translate those verb tenses from other languages. Writing in those tenses feels natural to me, but imagine trying to learn them from a grammatical standpoint in another language.

That brought me back to the latter years of my high school Italian class and having to learn new verb tenses. I can still remember learning the pluperfect subjunctive. I barely knew what a pluperfect subjunctive was in English let along trying to translate that into Italian. What I remember even more is my teacher Mrs. Miscella and her way of saying "pluperfect", her Italian accent emphasizing PLOOperect.

Yeah. I have to stop and think about the verb tenses, which breaks up what I'm saying.
