I didn't find it at all cliched, except for it being a scene we all love: there was nothing tired about it, and this scene can be played a thousand ways.
I also loved hearing Watson call him "Sherlock," and I liked the explanation for the hiatus, as well as Watson offering to leave, and then Holmes expecting him too.
Brava, and I look forward to seeing more from you.
Thank you! I've fallen completely in love with this fandom, so it's great to be here.
I'm so happy you didn't find it cliched. Even in my short time reading Holmes/Watson fics, I've read some great stories handling this theme, so I was quite nervous to throw my hat into the ring. I'm thrilled that I've gotten such a positive response.
I think I have some sort of kink for Watson calling Holmes "Sherlock". I love it every time it shows up. It's such a slightly awkward name, yet it suits him somehow, and I love the intimacy denoted in its use.
The Return cries out "INEVITABLE FIRST TIME"! Whether as a kiss, frottage or consummation, I think nearly every writer in this fandom *raises hand* has explored this fertile scene. I agree that your Watson voice sounds very authentic. Keep working on it. I often find that when I proof and tweak and expand, I discover new moments to pursue.
This is my favorite line: “She had you. There is no better than that.” *melts* Like you, I'm also a sucker for hearing Watson use Holmes' first name. I find it sexy as hell to imagine it emerging in a drawn-out husky breath. *shiver*
Anyway, great work. Keep it up. And again, welcome.
Thank you! I have absolutely fallen in love with this fandom -- both the pairing *happy sigh* and all the wonderful people who have been so encouraging.
The Return definitely requires exploration, doesn't it? There are so many different scenarios and possibilities that can be created from the emotions of that moment. And I'm so happy you like that line -- it was a moment of sweetness that just seemed to flow for me.
Wonderful first fic for the fandom, you have a perfect Watson voice, hope to read more from you soon!
Love first time fic very much, and altough this is a much written plot, you did an excellent job of bring it all alive with your beautiful writing, keep going!
Thank you so much! I really enjoyed writing in this fandom and have some thoughts for additional fics. I promise to work on them soon (well, soon for me). I'm so glad you liked this.
