AND DONNA NOBLE GOES AROUND TELLING PEOPLE, "OH I'M JUST A TEMP."

OKAY, HOW DID I MISS THAT BIT? THAT IS BRILLIANT.

SUPER!TEMP TAKES ON A WHOLE DIFFERENT MEANING NOW

Are you on board this Crazy Train as well? IT'S PRETTY CRAZY UP IN HERE.

Dude, I'm driving this crazy train. She might not be Romana, but all signs point to Donna Noble, Secret Time Lady, and if my cracked-out theory derived from seeing literally FOUR episodes of this show, total, turns out to be CORRECT, I'm going to start renting myself out as a psychic.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I HAD COMPLETELY COMPLETELY COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN ABOUT THAT, OMG.

Dude. DUDE. It has to be. Every single other thing other line of dialogue from that scene has had specific meaning to these last two episodes - "she is returning," "there's something on your back," the Medusa Cascade. We're left with:

a) the Doctor's name that's hidden in the stars
b) Daughter of London, who calls herself Noble

asfhaksjfhkasfhjkaf DONAN NOBLE IS A SECRET TIME LADY, NEWS AT ELEVEN.

(Have you been in the vapors today? IS YOUR ARM MADE OF STONE?)

OH. MY. GOD. I'm not insane. I could have literally heard the sound of two heartbeats beating in tandem. That's - that's insane.

I KNOW, RIGHT? IT'S JUST TOO PERFECT.

(Also, something I really liked about Pompeii, which was that, to a Roman, "Donna Noble" is as much a title as "The Doctor" is. They're BOTH nameless in Pompeii. GOD I'M INSANE.)

You know what did it? It was, honestly, the bit where they're arguing in the volcano, and the Doctor says: "That's the burden of a Time Lord, Donna, and I'm the only one left." and I DISTINCTLY remember thinking: "No, you're not, and she's standing right in front of you."

Watch us be completely wrong now. OH WELL.

UM WE ARE FORGETTING THE ONE OTHER VERY IMPORTANT PART ABOUT POMPEII:

LUCIUS: Who are you?
DOCTOR: I am... Spartacus.
DONNA: And so am I.
LUCIUS: Mr. and Mrs. Spartacus?
DOCTOR: Oh, no, no... we're not married.
DONNA: We're not together.
LUCIUS: Oh, brother and sister? Yes, of course, you look very much alike.
DOCTOR & DONNA: ...really?

THEY ARE FELLOW TIME PEOPLE, THAT IS WHY.

I feel like, even if we are completely wrong, our argument is still well-thought out and plausible.

*flails* OKAY, THIS IS MOST DEFINITELY THE NERDIEST CONVERSATION EVER. LET'S CONTINUE.

What I like about this theory is that you can factor in the Important Themes of:

a) Humanity = Awesome
b) Donna making some kind of huge sacrifice to save the universe

and get a situation whereby Donna doesn't have to give up her life to save the universe. What she chooses to give up is her new-found Time Lord...ness, and factoring in the memory-loss idea, this leaves her at the end a very confused, and most importantly VERY ALIVE, human. Who was briefly a Time Lord, but doesn't remember it.

THIS IS WHAT TO HAPPEN, OKAY WRITERS?

So Donna: realizes she's a Time Lady, does something that requires the sacrifice of her Time Ladyship, ends up a human? I LIKE IT.

I also like our theory because:

c) It proves Harriet Jones' dying words correct, that the Daleks will never understand the true meaning of what it means to be human. By their estimation, CHOOSING humanity over Time Lord is probably a ridiculous thing - but it'll be the one thing that saves everything.

PLUS "I'm sorry for the loss that is yet to come" becomes as much about the Doctor's seeming regeneration as it is about the loss of her unknown Time Lady powers.

(I WANT TO MAKE AN ICON THAT SAYS "YOUR LADYSHIP")

(All of this has me feeling a little let-down for Martha. I mean, yeah she got to turn into A COMPANION OF HUMAN AWESOME who travels the world talking about the Doctor, but Rose got to be BAD WOLF and now Donna is MAYBE A TIME LADY?)

OMG EITHER WAY, THIS THREAD IS GOING TO BE LOL IN FIVE DAYS.

c) And choosing humanity over (basically) eternity is very Donna, I think. She's seen more of the dark side of the Doctor's life than anyone else, along with the light. Plus, it fits with the whole "omg, you're special just the way you are!" thing she's got going, because she'd essentially be choosing to be herself. A normal, albeit kickass, human.

(Well, Martha got to be The Storyteller, which is kind of cool, and she's come out of it with the most normal life and least damage of any of them, so...I think she did okay? If I were to be any of the companions, I'd want to be her.)

OH GOD I KNOW. We're either going to be very smug or like, "WHAT CRACK WERE WE ON?"

grenadine, I love everything about this theory. EVERYTHING.

I also love how we're both flailingly vague about what causes the whole Dona-sacrifice thing, too. I ALMOST DON'T WANT TO SPECULATE ABOUT THAT, because that would be setting up too many expectations to dash.

That's a lie: Rose came back to warn the Doctor that the seal on the Time War - HIS REAL NAME - had been breached, and things were beginning to get out. Things being namely, Davros and Donna's ~*Time Lady essence*~. She needs to find him so he can reseal the breach.

Basically, it's my personal fanon that the Doctor used his name - I DON'T KNOW HOW, IN A DOCTOR WHO WAY - to seal the Time War. And that was his ultimate act, the Emo Gallifrey Guilt he's been carrying around, because a Time Lord's name is, I don't know, special and magical and PART of them. This is what Evelyn meant by his name being "hidden among the stars."

CARRY ON. CARRY ON. CARRY ON.

Yeah, and don't even ask me how or under what circumstances Donna actually BECOMES a Time Lady, because I have no idea, except I'm sure it's not due to a fobwatch.

...maybe something to do with the regeneration?

(And I think what I like best about this theory is that it's kind of...optimistic? It's not a bad ending for Donna, for one thing, and...I don't know. This show enjoys pain, don't get me wrong, but it seems like this ending needs to be at least a little affirmational.)

I'm going out on a limb and saying it's an escaped bit of Time Lord from the Time War (DON'T ASK) that managed to infect Not Yet Born Donna Noble (DON'T ASK), going off Rose's remarks that she's been giving off "separate readings" since birth.

FEEL FREE TO MOCK AT A LATER DATE.

(It's optimistic AND it gives Donna a destiny wholly separate from Rose - which, while I adore the crack-addled amazingness that is "DONNA NOBLE IS SOMEHOW ROSE'S DAUGHTER/SISTER," it is fair that everyone would be like waaaaaahhhhhh Why Is It Always About Rose.)
