Dear Law & OrderMike Cutter was in a rare form tonight, n'est-ce pas? A rare form of ARROGANT BRAVADO ASSHOLE LAWYER, a la Season 5 Jack McCoy. It was... I like

Oh my God.
Law & Order just confirmed what had previously been fanon-but-might-as-well-be.
OMG.
(Actual canon: beginning of second season, Mike's partner was MURDERED for testifying against crooked housing inspectors [I believe] and Mike was... basically THIS CLOSE to murdering the guy responsible back. Like, gun to his head, this close. And Olivet counseled him throughout the episode. That was the unintended violent consequences! OMG)

(The episode was all about a psychiatrist who, years and years ago, had violated ethics and started sleeping - and later married - his underaged patient. The ADA decided to put a WACKO on the stand who claimed there was no corrolation between rape and psychiatric effect, so the defense was all AFHAJKSHFASJK WE'RE CALLING DR. ELIZABETH OLIVET TO BITCHSLAP YOU. And Jack was all, "Liz, if you do it, gloves come off!" and she's all "pfft whatev, JACK." WELL... then Jack told the ADA something that Liz had once told him in confidence - that she had counseled a police officer [!] with whom she had slept with during treatment [!!] and who had a history of violence related to this issue [!!!]. Basically, there's no way he wasn't talking about Mike about his first partner's got shot and Mike went CRAZY WITH VENGEANCE, wayyyyyyy back when.)

I think I'm going to have to track down this episode now. We still haven't seen the last bit of last season down here in Oz :(

I was so gleeful last night at Cutter continuing to reveal new levels of assholery. I love him. And I loved Lupo's "eugh" reaction. I'm full of L&O love! (Seriously, the theme song makes me kind of giddy again, as if it were 19somethingsomething.)

I think I enjoy Cutter's assholery because Connie has apparently stopped trying futilely to talk him out of it. Of course, and also because when the shit eventually hits the fan but good (oh and it will: this is television!), IT'S GOING TO BE AMAZING TO WATCH.
(Uhhhhh. I try to imagine what I would have been like in 1995, during Jack/Claire Era. I think it... would have been like this, omg.)

I love how it seems like L&O has gotten over its "must. be. procedural. all. the. time" and figured out "Hey...we can use these characters backstories/personalities to enhance rather than detract from the show." :)

Don't worry, I won't disappoint! I'm halfway through your requested fic commentary (WHICH IS FUN, because I had forgotten all these little quirky bits about the story), and I have a commissioned Office thing I have to complete first. BUT IT IS COMING.
