do us all a favour and get a job that involves you influencing tons of people. seriously. because this country needs a good dose of logic right now. i'm so sick and tired of this blind nationalism that people use as an excuse to act like self-righteous jackasses while perpetuating the stereotype of the ugly american. and the very idea of another human being tortured in the name of this country just breaks my heart.

you rule so hard.

I totally agree with you. It's just so stupid and hypocritical, and wrong on so many levels.

And then of course, you have the photos of British soldiers torturing Iraqis, which look more and more like they might be fake, yet which will still have the same impact and send the same message out of the arab world. Whoever thought pulling a stunt like that would be a good idea needs some serious sense knocking into them.

i just don't understand why, after invading a country on very shakey grounds, you'd want to fan anyone's flames by pulling something like this, real or staged.

admist this very serious discussion, i'm going to take the time to enjoy your icon :)

Rush Limbaugh referred to the pictures out of Abu Ghreib as "Nothing worse than what goes on at the Skull & Bones initiation...people blowing off steam." If torturing people is a legitimate way to blow off steam, then I'm about to open up a can on Rush Limbaugh's ass.

And if you want an incisive but disturbing psychological insight into "how this happens"? Check out The Stanford Prison Experiment. Creepy.

fucking WORD. People who shrug this off as "not that bad" make me want to punch things. Preferably things that look like said people.
