Summary: He fears, for a second, that he won't be seeing his father.

He wakes up silently, slipping from their bed, the echoes of sirens and screams around him. She sleeps, unaware. She may be awake, he doesn't know this, and refuses to join him in defeating the latest crime wave of Gotham. He doesn't ask, and doesn't touch her costume as he suits up.

They've been so uncommunicative lately.

A brief steal out the window brings him to the salty night, the cool air surrounding him as he leaps, his cape trailing behind him. It seems so different, so much heavier in Bruce's suit, but he ignores it as much as possible. He follows the light to the junction, bullets ringing in his ears  and he leaps and tackles, trying to ignore Cassandra's sleeping form in bed. She's tired, filled to the brim with the long day of being human, and the brief love-making they both tried -- unsuccessfully -- to initiate during their short hours in bed.

He hates that. They're together, dammit, man and wife. They are one.

Except where they're not.

He socks a thug harder than necessary, and is briefly enthralled by the rush of blood before ending the temporary confusion. A rush of angry cries behind him and he's leaping and the world is around him and he lands, hands rushing up to meet him.

He doesn't thank her. She doesn't want it, her face twisted with anger as she follows him. "You didn't wake me up."

"I didn't think you wanted to come this time." He allows her to steal his next move and wriggles the gun out of the nearest opponent's arms.

"Don't precede to know me, Batman," she hisses angrily as bone meets bone as she throws her anger into a thug's face. Tim winces sympathetically, remembering their first fight, and the table she threw at him. He'd always liked that table. They allow the GCPD to watch for a few minutes before Tim clears them all with a blast of cloaking gas. It steams around them all, and they fight in silence, finishing the rest of the obstacles before he kisses her.

The world hasn't accepted Batman and Wonder Woman as one, and probably never will. Therefore this is necessary, hiding in plain sight.

She responds hesitantly, then grips him, transferring her anger into passion and they embrace.

He hears coughing from behind them, and an angry shout, "That's enough!"

Cassandra smiles against his mouth and her eyes are no longer edgy when they find his. "I didn't want to come this time. We just needed to talk."

"And we had to do that now?"

A flash of anger in her eyes. "We aren't exactly normal, Tim." He refuses to agree.

Her body is warm against his own and his mind is somewhat clear. He finds a grapnel and shoot, keeping her close. She won't have to fly home tonight.

"I say we finish what we started, Mrs. Sandsmark."

Her lips agree but her eyes do not.

End.
