Dwayne McDuffie R.I.P, TV Misc, Drive Angry 3D

Feb 24, 2011 12:51

Last Thursday Dwayne McDuffie did the panel at the Paley Center for Media for “All Star Superman”, the animated movie that he wrote with work adapted from Grant Morrison’s comic of the same name. Sunday was Dwayne’s 51st birthday (though some sources say he turned 49). Monday he went in for surgery. Tuesday he passed away from complications from ( Read more... )

It has grisly scenes and gratuitous nudity thrown in because it’s not a low grade B movie until you throw in female nudity unnecessarily.

Ah. I was hoping it was William Fitchner who got naked until you threw in "female nudity." Now I'm disappointed. :)

Sadly no. I think you have to watch "Go" for that. But he is a joy. He was wonderful in it.

That's such sad news about Dwayne McDuffie. *sniff*

It was so shocking. I couldn't believe it. It's so very sad.

Community is one of my favorite shows. I loves me some Donald Glover; he's the best thing about the show IMO.

He's hilarious. I love his and Abed's relationship and he's so very cute to boot.

Teddy and Naomi are the best things about 90210.

I love Naomi now. She's so adorkable now versus just being a standard cut TV bitch. After Naomi's rape I thought they were setting up a storyline about a friendship with her and Teddy (when he dragged her from the party at the hotel with those men). I really wanted to see a friendship develop between the two of them. But I'll take his and Silver's continued friendship.

Adriana needs to die; I'm so over her. One. How funny was the opening to her reality show? Two. Why is she still worrying about Navid after how obsessed she was with her career and put him on the backburner? Why would she think he'd want something to do with her how she's so warped with faking like she wants her ( ... )

What a lovely obit/eulogy that you have written for Dwayne McDuffie. But it appears that you had an estimable subject.

He said he didn’t want to appear to push his work, but asked that people buy books and read more and read to their kids and open their imagination as Dwayne had.
Yes! And no apologies for that!

I'm not familiar with Mr. McDuffie's work, at least not to know that it was his. I had seen the JLA animation cartoon and enjoyed it. Damage Control looks interesting. I think that I will round up a copy and read that. If you have a suggestion as to what you think is his best work, please let me know. I'll read that too ( ... )

Very much so. The work and the content of his character by all appearances is unquantifiable.

If you have a suggestion as to what you think is his best work, please let me know. I'll read that too.

I'm trying to think of specific JLA issues he wrote. He was a cowriter on The Black Canary/Green Arrow Wedding Special that I really loved, but I'll suggest ones that's strictly his that I liked. I'm going to catch up on his Milestone work.

Nicholas Cage has created his genre of Trash B Movies. I might check this one out when it comes on Pay Per View.

I really don't advocate people paying full price for this. Maybe when it goes to the local rundown theater where there's a double feature for a buck fifty and really stale popcorn. Maybe then. But its's stupid fun.

I have to say that I am leery of 3D movies. For some reason, I can never focus properly when I watch one of them.I can't stop myself from doing, "Glasses ( ... )

"Glasses on, glasses off. LOL
"Hair up, hair down" I started watching Arrested Development. ;)

But I do the same watching 3D stuff, just to see if it does make a difference. And when you are wearing glasses, as I do, wearing a 3D one on top of it, isn't really adding to the viewing pleasure.

He said that when “Green Lantern” comes out in theaters this year there will be a generation of people who will say, “That’s not Green Lantern.” It was McDuffie who was able to push John Stewart (aka, the Black Green Lantern. Phil LaMarr who voiced John Stewart was also there.) into the forefront with “Justice League Unlimited”.
Thanks to JL & JLU, John Stewart will always be my GL (and I'll always 'ship him with both Flash & Hawkgirl!) You know I love SV but writing quality & consistency-wise? JL & JLU are the best superhero tv shows ever. And that's from D McD.

I’m not buying her as the sexpot though
She's so pretty but that is just not her style forte.
Glover is such a sweetheart, always looks so huggable,

He has really left a deep and lasting impact with his work.

I adore him. He just has it all: funny, looks, style. I'm sure he's nice. He's a great talent.

Do you know if it was an emergency surgery or something routine? Yes, medical details always interest me.

I read that it was an emergency heart surgery :(

The balance of wackiness and serious emotion are perfect. And the cast... fabulous.

I can't believe it's not a bigger hit than it is because it's so ingenious and how they tackle different themes. Even Troy's birthday episode was a standout to me because itw as comparatively quiet episode but told us so much about everyone's backstory without making it seem like a Very Special Community Episode.

Yay! I wondered if anyone else on my f-list was watching Shameless.

LOL! Same here. I love it.

I think the guy who plays "Lip" is a huge standout, but really, I think they're all well cast and well-played.

All the kids have grown on me. Even crazy killer Carl.

Joan Cusack was a perfect choice, and it's good to see her get some decent work.

She's wonderful. Did you see last weeks' ep where she was struggling on how to Liam from outside? She's superb.
