Aramel requested a story about Elrond and Elros, during their life with the Fëanorians, when they learn in one way or another about the fate of Eluréd and Elurín. And so, for you, Aramel, are two hott Fëanorians, two angsty little Elflings...and a partridge in a pear tree. ;^)

Gotta say I have been reading your work for a long time, I just started blogging recently, but I don't see many light hearted or happy stories, except your Feanor comdey of course. Not that I think that a bad thing comdey is an escape from reality or making reality seem better by pointing out the ridiculous. The stories you write have the JRRT spirit of pure bittersweetness that so few authors can truly master, I would say Larry McMurtry is another. I disagree some with the academic and philisophical points made in the story, I only bring them up for later discussion you can respond if you care. I always wondered what it would be like to be the fly on the wall in the situation that you picture above, JRRT is ambivialent and ambiguous about the relationship between the last two Sons of Feanor and the Twins of Earendil, I have never been quite sure what he wanted it to be, love despite wrong doing or little love because of wrong doing. Clearly from the later source which are far more complete one can see Elrond's mark on the histories, ( ... )

I'm going to reply to all of your comments in one fell swoop, rather than attaching them to the comment to which they belong, since they're all a single thought. (If that makes sense! :)

Do I write happy stories? Occasionally, yes. ;) I'll link some for you at the end, when you ask for recs for what to read next. But I do find bittersweet or even tragic stories easier, in a way. Yet, a lot of what you've read so far are what I'd consider happy endings: Caranthir and Haleth end up together forever in "The Choices of Spirits"; Feanor is at peace (with hopes of saving the world) in "The Tapestries." They are bittersweet ... but that is how I see Middle-earth. Even Frodo's "saving the world" came at a great personal price. I get tears in my eyes at the beginning of the movies when he is so carefree, knowing what he will become, what he will sacrifice, and wanting his happiness to last much longer than it does. But I digress. :)

Actually, I knew that because you already told me: "so far right wing to nearly come out the left," or something like that. ;) I felt the need to disclose my own PoV on things since rights for same-sex couples are a big issue for me on account of my sister. It's something that I get passionate about, so I thought it fair that you had fair warning, since we don't see eye to eye on this.

I am not a philosopher at all, and physics is my weakest scientific discipline, so I'll make a stab at coherence in explaining my PoV on your comments. :) I am definitely not an absolutist. Even in terms of science, "absolute" is how we define it, based on what we know of the universe. Who is to say that that will not change? (Now I am waiting for pandemonium_213--my biochemist buddy--to come and smack me down ( ... )

Story recs: let's see, as far as happier stories go, I'd say first and foremost When the Stars Smile, which is a romantic comedy with a definite happy ending. Paper is one of my personal favorites, was honored with a MEFA in '06, and is also a bit lighter than some of my other stuff. (And was also my first stab at creating a viable character for Curufin!) Salt is darker but is, again, a favorite of mine and took 2nd place in First Age stories at the MEFAs this year, so I recommend that one. (It is part of the same series as "Paper," incidentally.) Return to Me ... along the lines of "The Tapestries," which I know you liked, dealing with Mandos and afterlife; a bit controversial (and weird!)

I haven't gotten around to putting these on LJ yet:

An Ordinary Woman, a realistic take on the story of Beren and Luthien, is getting a lot of positive attention on SWG right now. (Surprisingly, since I'm only about 50% happy with it myself!)

Rekindling: this one is set after "Tapestries," even, and I am fairly pleased with it.
