'Shoein' in the 'Hood, or the Blizzard of 2016

Baltimore officially broke the record for the most snowfall out of a single storm, so this was officially The Most Epic Snowstorm EverTM Or At Least Since Records of Such Have Been Kept Because I'm Pretty Sure More Epic Snowstorms Happened Before But Just Weren't Written Down. Here in Manchester, the National Weather Service tells us that we ( Read more... )

Well, if you wanted to venture out tomorrow, we're all off work and we have pork belly!

Don't know where you'll park though...

We drove by your house twice today! We called hello and wished you luck with your pipe/water situation. (I initially typed, "We called hell and wished you luck with your pope situation." Wow.) I don't think wild horses (or an overcautious wife) will keep Bobby from Liberty tomorrow, but I'll ask him what he's thinking his schedule will be.

When we went by, your neighbors were digging out through the snow mound made by the plow along your street. Wow.

The pipes are fixed! :-)

I get it. though--I bet Liberty is Bobby's idea of heaven right now!

I'm glad the pipes are fixed! (Dammit, I just typed "popes" again! Either I'm having some weird Catholic thing going on, or I shouldn't drink Guinness while trying to type!) When I saw your message on the dance group, I worried ...

Re: Liberty ... When it became clear that it wasn't safe to attempt it--in part because we were in the Yaris, not having dug out the truck! (and that's gonna take some digging!)--Bobby was all like, "Well, there's tomorrow. They will have groomed it by then but ... *HUGE SIGH*"

I feel a little sorry for him. But not much. This time a week ago, we were still in Vail, and people were saying it was the most epic powder day they'd had in 20 years, so it's not like he's gone without this year!

That is an awesome mug.

I'm glad you survived the storm okay! And being able to go snowshoeing at night like that is a lovely mental image.

Awww… your wilds. :D

I never thought I'd be the type of person subject to wubbles over a "World's Greatest Mom" mug, but Alex picked the callouses off a lot of my emotional armor, it seems. I absolutely love the mug. It was a perfect gift.

The snowshoeing at night was one of those things that was an opportunity that we just had to take. It was so beautiful out last night. I don't know if I'm ever going to see that combination of the fresh snow, almost full moon, and departing storm again, at least in Maryland. Our neighbors up the gravel road probably wondered at the weird tracks this morning, though!

OMG. That's ... not even remotely bearable.

*sends some of our copious snow your way*

I've learned that I'm quite content in this type of weather. As long as I'm warm in the house, bring the snow, bring the cold, I don't care. Egregious heat and humidity in the summer is much harder to bear.

Really wonderful photos of the snow, dogs and food. (Unlike you I actually like pictures of food on social media. I think it satisfies some of my food cravings so I can avoid eating.)

LOVE the mug with (I presume) pics of Alex on it.

Thanks for the TV and film recs...have not seen either Black Sails or Wild. Another of my flisters loves Black Sails so I will have to make sure I see it.

I have a couple of friends who take great food pictures, but for the most part amateur photos of food just tend to look gross to me!

Yep, that's Alex. :) Lance and Gwen are on the other side.

I highly recommend Black Sails. It was a little slow getting started in the first season for me, but last season blew me away. It's entertaining with great characterization.

Wild was one of my favorites of last year's Academy Award crop. I recommend it even more than Black Sails! :D

That's a fabulous mug and so easy to see why you just lost it when you first saw it. I loved the pic of Gwen looking up from the snow. With her lighter colored fur, add the snow and she can almost blend right in. However, I think Lance has the right idea - go out, do your business, come back in for warmth, food and love.

You and Bobby both got some good exercise snowshoeing around. Personally, I'm delighted someone other than us got the snow for a change (of course, today we have ice, and I'd rather be dealing with snow than with ice).

Be careful when you guys return to work. As you know well, each plowed section has its own challenges.

I sometimes call Gwen a dirty pile of snow ... :D

Schools remain closed, and I hope it will be a couple days at least before we return. As of last night, my inlaws--who live in the county where we both teach--hadn't even seen a plow. The roads should be perfectly clear by the time schools reopen.
