A Question for My Fellow Web Design Geeks! :)

As most of you know, I am involved with the SCA. As is common (I have found) in groups that do not exist entirely or mostly online but do desire an online presence, a person with even basic design skills (like me) becomes a valuable commodity. As such, I offer my help where I can with web-based SCA projects

Hmmm I know that there are some sites that helps you by ticking options here, making selections with menu's and there that will generate a page built with CSS. I need to go looking around for that (got my hands full atm). Is e-mail ok?

I'm a Dreamweawver junkie. Once I realized I could size and click and never have to hand-code a fnarkin table again, I've never gone back.

Of course, I think all tools require at least a notion of what's going on. The easiest, most user-friendly tool isn't going to help somebody who doesn't know what a header is.

Depending on how much interaction your friend wants, I pulled a favorite off of Free CSS Templates and started with that. Mine isn't very interactive, it just acts as a front end to additional links and PHPBB, whcih was all rather fun to set up, now i just need to customize it some more - I do have some ideas, it's just a lot of time to do much more.

But yeah, it's a lot of hand coding at this point, no fancy tools for me.

Heirs of Elendil and if you can spot the glaringly obvious (to me) idiosyncracy on the front page, then you know your Tolkien! I keep waiting for someone else to say something, but no one has.

Oh, and I use this site a lot, not sure it's the best for an absolute newbie, but very basic familiarity is enough. HTML, CSS, and all sorts of good things.

Thanks for the thoughts on this! (And I adore your icon! :^D) I've passed along the link to this post, and she said that she found everyone's suggestions most helpful, so hopefully she'll have her site up and running soon.

I give up on the idiosyncrasy. I have been staring at the page for five minutes; even looked up the heraldry in case there was a star missing or a color wrong or something.

You're right on the heraldry - it's Gil-galad's, which, obviously, just isn't Elendil's. I keep waiting for someone to point that out to me, but I guess few are as geeky as me. But since I had the icon labeled as Gil-galad's, I had the inside scoop.

I have an idea that I'll make some nice word art out of the Tengwar for Elendil, but I don't seem to be able to get in gear to do that.
