So sorry you are feeling sick still, sweetie. I just finished your story (in the middle of making dinner, about an hour ago!). I still want to copycheck it better before I post it for you. It is rather silly (especially compared to the one you gave me). Oh, well, I am a rather silly person.

Feel better.

I am finally feeling better today, thank you. :)

And it was not silly! Funny in places, yes, but certainly not silly. It was a very insightful story I thought, and most recommended.

(Hey flist! Go read it! ;)

Thank you! *hugs back* We had a remarkably good holiday, given that my whole family save my dad (who'd gotten a flu shot) was sick for most of it.

When Rampaging Frodo was a mere sprout of about 2 years and 3 months, I managed to catch influenza. This was a really nasty type A flu strain that laid me out like a pyretic corpse for a week. My fevered memory is of my kid swirling around me while I wished I could die. I have dutifully gotten a flu shot every year since then. So, no more debilitating illnesses at the winter solstice for me.

Likewise, I'm mildly buzzed from this evening's chardonnay. We just finished up the traditional familial viewing of "Bad Santa" (the uncut version). That's our dysfunctional version of evening Christmas services. "Who are you? Sigmund Sawed-off F*cking Freud?" always sends me into paroxysms. Oh, that whacky Billy Bob Thorton and Tony Cox!

Might I inquire what the nature of the ice cream treats are? I can't help but think at least one might be peppermint-flavored.

Here's wishing everyone a happy and peaceful [insert inclusive winter holiday of choice here]!

I think the last time I had a flu was in high school. In that sense, being a hermit is very helpful. :^P

I had to laugh at your family tradition; it sounds like great fun! Our family becomes pretty irreverent too. Yesterday, my dad and sister-in-law (Bobby's sister, not my sister's wife) posed with my dad on s-i-l's lap, and she threatens to buy him butt beads as a gift every year ... holidays with the miscreants!

Might I inquire what the nature of the ice cream treats are?

One was a German chocolate pie: a chocolate graham-cracker crust with chocolate ice cream, topped with caramel whipped cream and toasted pecans and coconut. That one is a family favorite; it was insisted that I make it after it was virtually inhaled for Thanksgiving dessert.

The second one was an eggnog torte: ginger snap crust filled with eggnog ice cream (a recipe sans raw eggs; the last thing we need is Salmonella on top of the flu!) and topped with rum whipped cream and, of course, a liberal sprinkling of nutmeg. I made everything from scratch save the ( ... )

Festive red and green butt beads, I would hope.

holidays with the miscreants!

The best kind!

Re: the German chocolate ice cream pie - that's right, I remember you said that was received well at Thanksgiving. The eggnog sounds mighty tasty, too.

I´m sorry to hear you´re ill in the holidays (there are viruses in a part of my family, too). Get better!

I'm better today, and Bobby's getting better too. We're hoping to actually enjoy some of the holiday with my sister and s-i-l. :)

Incidentally, this is a British flu that they brought over with them from England. I think the whole world is sick!

O_O The virus I mentioned is one that brings a violent sickness and vomits during a 24-48 hours period. All my family has now been affected except just five.... and for the first time in my life I´m one of those five. I´m quite afraid, though. Wish I knew where it came from...

I´m glad to hear you´re getting better!

Luckily, what has afflicted us has not involved vomiting! Just aches and fever and misery ... and this awful rattling cough that sounds like we all belong on the consumption ward. But what's hitting your family sounds much worse. I hope everyone is better soon!

Is it possible that it's foodborne? Has everyone shared a meal anytime recently? The stats in the US for foodborne illness is that 33% of adults are affected annually, and most write it off as a "stomach flu" with symptoms like you describe.

I'm much better today, thank you, as is Bobby. :) The sucky thing is that I think this was the first time I've had five days off from work in a row (save time off for traveling on vacation), and all but one day of it was lost to sickness. Meh. :(
