So, this has been a question which has bugged me ever since I got my first job. Being professional vs. being who and how I am. I haven't been "David" since middle school. Since the beginning of HS I have gone by the name of "Davi" or "Dav" or some similar enough name. Honestly, it feels weird when telemarketers or professors call me "David".

As for if "Davi" can work in a professional sense, I don't see why not, but you're right, going into an interview with "David" listed on your resume and then asking to be called "Davi" is a bit unorthodox and may put the interviewer back a step. Or they may think it's neat and quirky and like you more for it, depends on the interviewer :P

Another approach-- although paperwork from institutions will have your full name on them, your résumé can say "D. [middle name] Snowdeal". That will also prompt people to call you by the name with which you introduce yourself.
