My poor husband had to pry me away from our trashcan once, as I was entrancedly watching slugs mate (hanging from a cord of slime, but no visible phalli as of that moment) . . . he was deeply disturbed that I found it all so INTERESTING.
Heh.

The first time I ever came to British Columbia, some fourteen years ago, my father took me out to Vancouver Island, where we took a tour of a park which was in large part constituted of a marsh land which had a series of wooden brides and walk-ways criss-crossing it. It was whilst I walked across one that I saw a Bannana Slug for the first time, and was positively thunder-struck by the site of it. Back in Ontario where I grew up, the only slugs you'd ever see were little slate-grey things which could fit onto a grown man's thumnail. To see one of these nine-inch monstrosities really brought home just how far from home I was. It was at that moment that I began to take a keen interest in British Columbian wildlife.

"Oh, yes. Quite familliar with this one; from BBC's "Life in the Undergrowth". I actually have a copy of the whole documentary, and am currently working on - and I don't know if I'll be able to get this done to my satisfaction or not - a video version of this entry for YouTube, using that very footage."
Nevertheless, thanks for the effort at the heads up.
