So, as promised, I attended the Freaky Weirdo Brand Deluxe Christians’ tent rally on Saturday.

I had never attended one of these events before and really, really did not know what to expect. It was a relatively small and unspectacular affair, as I had expected it to be; I doubt there was more than twenty-five people present (aside from the eight ( Read more... )

It was reasonably rewarding; I come up with all of these arguments and direct them either at phantom opponents constructed in my own mind, or direct them out into the ether. It was nice to finally direct some of them at long last towards their intended audience, and see them at last have their intended effect.

Wow. You may have destroyed that woman's world view. ;)

Well, sometimes on needs to destroy in order to create. An edifice of superstition standing on land better allocated to a house of reason is one which must be torn down.

That was gently done. I would not like to be her pastor when she has had time to really think about it.

Ah, I suspect his job will be an easy one, unfortunately: A few exhortations to "just have faith" is likely all that it will take. This is plainly a woman who desperately WANTS to believe, no matter how good or how plentiful she admits the arguments to the contrary are.

Well, not with an attitude like that! Gumption is the sort of thing which needs to be cultivated! And one does so by acting in a manner which runs along gumption-intensive lines. Soon, you will have as much gump as an army of vigorous go-getters!

Give it a chance; if nothing else, it'll be an awesome memento of your all-too-brief time in Vancouver.

If I had to choose one blog to follow, it'd be yours. I love your adventures and experiments. You have my full respect!

Is it wrong that the way you described God totally reminded me of the Goa'Uld from Stargate SG-1?

If this were so, I would need to step up my output fairly dramatically, lest I feel that I was betraying so sacred a trust!

I would suggest that Pharyngula (which has a livejournal feed), which is in some senses similar in tone and content and much more prolific than mine, would be a better choice.

I've actually never watched any Stargate stuff, and so I can only take your word for it, I'm afraid.

there are some surprising similarities. essentially, they are evil symbiotes with a serious god complex and pirated sufficiently-advanced-technology. they use this to violently keep their status as gods, along with a whole universe of ick and stomach-worms. the god you speak of could well be one of these with a less empire-minded approach.
