It took Pepper significantly longer than Chase to get to the cave. It might have taken her less time had she known exactly which cave they'd meet at, but she'd also been delayed by her spur of the moment decision to take a shower before heading out again.

She had no real concept of time out here, and was barreling in the direction of the caves, hair still wet from her shower, convinced that she was terribly late and he would leave without her. She'd managed at least to procure a pair of hiking boots in the shop, and had tied a light jacket around her waist in case it happened to be chilly.

Finally coming to where he was leaning, she took a moment to attempt to catch her breath before speaking.

"Sorry I'm late," she panted, "Am I late?"

Chase shook his head. "Not late," he assured her as he pushed away from the wall. "We're not on a schedule," he continued before he turned to regard the cave's entrance. He'd chosen the one closest to the water, and he wondered if it would be wet inside.

He reasoned it would be damp, at least, and he grinned. "Ready to head in?"

Having caught her breath, Pepper nodded enthusiastically. It occurred to her that she was now doing the things she'd always said she'd do after college, and then didn't do because she'd scored the Stark Industries job. It was heady to be doing it now, and she was glad that she was still youthful enough to enjoy it.

"No mer-people in this one," she suggested, "Maybe something else though. What lives in caves?"

"Bats. Bears. Bobcats. Frogs, lizards, snakes, spiders," he ticked them off on his fingers. "Fish if there's a cave pond or something. Frogmen," he added with a quiet laugh as he stepped inside.

There was a curve right off, and the light didn't filter in very far. Withdrawing the flashlights, he offered one to her before clicking his own on. They were fairly heavy-duty flashlights, and the range on them was pretty good.

Not that Chase needed it, he realized, when he found he could see nearly as well without the light. Interesting. Very interesting.
