It was interesting, Luna thought, that the Dingery Bat illusion had changed so suddenly. Its poison worked in such mysterious ways. Yesterday, she had awoken out in the sand in a hot desert - she still had the map of said place saved in the Etch-a-Sketch she was carrying to prove it - and today, she was in a small coastal town. It was really quite odd ( ... )

Edward heard Luna coming before he even saw her. Her thoughts practically screamed out at him, as caught up in them as she was. He also found himself suddenly well informed on the subjects of Dingery Bats and Solmagons. He came swiftly to the conclusion that Luna was not your average youth.

Sighing, he figured he may as well introduce himself. He'd meet her sooner or later anyhow, and she seemed to know Bella, so it would be prudent to be on her good side.

Turning to face the newcomer, Edward strode in what he estimated to be the equivalent of a normal human pace toward her.

"Hello," he said when he had reached Luna's spot, letting the natural timbre of his voice flow through the single word. He hoped that it would have the desired effect; there was something about her that wasn't the same as most of the people he'd used this effect on.

Luna glanced from the nest she was inspecting at the sound. She caught a glimpse of a figure approaching. Her eyes widened in alarm. "Careful!" she said quickly, skipping carefully over the beach to close the distance between them. She put a hand on his chest briefly to stop his progress. "You really should watch where you're going. This beach is filled with Solmagons! I've never stepped on one myself, but Father says that to do so is quite painful, and I wouldn't want you...to..."

She paused in her explanation, and glanced up at stranger, getting a better look at his face. Her mouth fell open in surprise. He was stunning! She frowned, intrigued by what she saw but confused by it, and continued to survey him for a moment, taking in his features, attempting to determine what it was about him that was so attractive...

"You are unnaturally beautiful," she said after a moment, meaning it more as a statement than as flattery.

Edward chuckled, a sound that emanated more low in his throat than anything else. Her matter-of-factness definitely amused him.

"I suppose I am," he supplied, enjoying her use of the word 'unnaturally'. That was certainly a more than apt description of it. He might just use that later, should he have to explain himself.

"I'm Edward," he shrugged, wondering if he should mention Bella yet. He decided to hold off. Clearly, Luna was intuitive. He didn't want to give the game away unless he absolutely had to. No need to tell secrets yet, although he had reason to believe that the Volturi wouldn't be seeking him out here to crucify him for sins such as this.
