Harpy Why are you appointing a Senate. Can someone give me a party that has a dream and stands for that dream?

1) hes running out of time
2) something is better than nothing
3) guessing that not all the party agrees, and missing how many years of appointments would prob. not go over well.

Stupid to leave it until parlement is porouguguged. That just makes it look dirty.

He promised to reform Senate and said he wouldn't appoint new senators until he did but ... now that he needs support or might be out of power he will stack the Senate again.

Some party has to exist that will promise reform and do it.

I still think he wants senate reform, but given the options of the NDP having a larger say in the appointments, and being 2 years behind in filling the vacancies (18 of 105) almost 20% of the senate is too much to leave up to the opposition to get for free, since they can do the same thing.

Basically it is Prudence vs. Ideology.

Right and I think we are seeing to much Prudence of late and not enough Ideology.

The problem is reform is much easier said then done. It is very difficult to change the constitution especially with regards to the way the houses are selected....

right but most things in government are easier said than done and I see no will among our politicitians to do anything revolutionary because revolutionary can be good for the country it is not good to getting yourself reelected and that appears to the goal of our current political crop.

I think the problem is systemic. We have people who are interested in power and preside and entitlement rather than a scene of noble purpose.
