[An elf appears on the datapad screen. She appears to be warily inspecting the device, which is on the floor. Maybe she's had too many bad experiences with mirror-type objects. She taps it lightly a few times before she stands up, looking around-- not talking to anything or anyone in particular.]

Did I fall asleep? The Fade looks so much more gray ( Read more... )

[He's very obviously averting his eyes.]

You can get clothes from the droids.

Droids? [This confused look should just be plastered to her face forever] Well yes... clothes would be nice. But I'd like to know where I am too.

The - metal people. They're around. [yes Luke this is very specific.]

It's a planet called Coruscant. What's a fade?

Metal people? I've never met a metal person before. I've met rock people. Or rock spirits. But they're not really people, or very nice, and they don't give you clothes. [She hesitates for a moment, then picks up the mirror and takes it with her while she looks around.] You don't know what the Fade is?

Like one of the Vaathkree? They've always seemed okay to me... But you probably mean something else. Sorry. Droids are built to serve people, though some of them are people themselves. It's complicated.

I've never heard of it.

It's another realm, but... I thought even humans teach their children about the Fade and spirits. At least a little, enough to scare them into eating all their greens. [None of it correct, but they still know it exists.]

Realm? Like... reality, or... hyperspace? But with spirits?

Yes... I suppose... [er] I'm sorry, what's hyperspace?

Oh. It's how you get from one planet to another. You can only move faster than light in hyperspace. Physics are different there... Um... you probably don't know what I mean...

Okay, I'm Luke. Hi.

I'm afraid I have no idea. Sorry! [It happens a lot.]

I'm Merrill. It's nice to meet you, Luke.

It's okay! You can learn. Don't worry about it, a lot of Outworlders don't know at first. That's what they call us.

Hello.

[Ah, good. He's relieved.]

Everyone else. So it's what we call ourselves, too.

Then this happens a lot? [Sigh] What is this that we're speaking on? Are you in hyperspace?

Fairly often. There's a lot of us on this planet. I'm not in hyperspace, and these are called datapads. You can use yours to talk to anyone else who has one.
