[Tenel Ka is in the process of twisting her hair back into braids, one hand braiding as the other hand holds the datapad up]

It seems as though in the...excitement of the past few weeks, I had missed the announcement of the planet Dathomir being open to visitors. [There's a barest hint of fondness in her tone; Dathomir is one of her home planets, ( Read more... )

What's it like there? Aside from having rancors?

Much of it is still given over to nature, even in my time. The human population is small and matriarchal. There are Force users there, although they are not of the Jedi Order; the inhabitants have long since splintered into various clans. I believe I mentioned my grandmother was Dathomiri, last time we spoke - my mother was also a Witch of Dathomir, and it is through her line that I inherited my abilities in the Force. I spent much of my childhood there, and have many fond memories of the place. [She ties off another braid, still one handed, before tugging at it slightly] I am currently braiding my hair in the traditional Dathomiri fashion.

[Eheh.]

[He's fascinated.]

So... tribal? Was it always tribal? The humans must have got there sometime. Are they colonists, or is it less official? Do you suppose they haven't developed the culture you knew yet?

Fact. It is tribal, but I am unsure if this was always the case. History has never been my forte, and it has been...some time, since I was able to focus on Dathomir. The legend goes that every human currently on planet during my time could trace their ancestry to a single Jedi and her daughters, although this is likely just that, a legend. I believe Palpatine attempted to establish a penal colony at some point, but the witches of Dathomir have since gained ownership of the planet, so to speak, and forged ties with the Hapes Consortium.

I admit that it is unlikely the culture I know is yet present. In this matter, however, I felt it best to be cautious.

Penal colony worlds are always so interesting. You know they're all picked for being too hostile or otherwise bad for settlements? And remote but not really part of some other territory, of course.

So are Dathomiri near-humans? Are you near-human? [Luke suddenly looks horribly embarrassed. Near-humans are discriminated against in the Empire - mostly ones who look decidedly different, but Imperial careers can stall if someone's accused of Mirialan ancestry, for example. It's a sore topic, in his time.] I'm sorry! I didn't mean to - sorry... obviously that, that doesn't matter.

[She nods] Dathomir would fit the qualifications, for the most part.

Ah. Such curiosity is understandable; I'm not offended. The Witches of Dathomir are human, but I myself am near-human, yes. My father is from Hapes, although the differences between humans and Hapan near-humans are not pronounced.

Oh - well, okay then. I still shouldn't have asked. [He feels like he's put his foot in his mouth even if TK doesn't think so.]
