I'm enjoying Attrition so far (admittedly, I've read the prologue and about five paragraphs of the first part), apart from two things:
1. Lavender on black. GOD.
2. "Jack slowly released the breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding" GYAAAAAAAAAAAH! [beats the cliche to a bloody pulp]
Neither of these, however, is enough to throw me out of the thing yet, which I suppose is a sign of how well it's written. Some stuff, that old chestnut would be IT. (Maybe it's because it's early. If there is a last straw, we'll see what it turns out to be.)
Do you know that if you're using Firefox, you can go to View -> Page Style -> No Style and it'll be black on white? That's how I got through it, because I agree, lavender on black = ouch. And now I've got the whole thing downloaded to my PDA in nice, plain HTML. (I could send you a zip file of the whole thing if you wanted.)
And, yeah, there are some stylistic things that occasionally made me cringe, but the story was good enough that I could ignore them.
Oh! I thought there must be a way to do that, but all I could find was the ticky-box in Options where I can set fonts and colors and uncheck the box to allow sites to set their own. And I didn't want to override the whole internets just so I could look at this one thing. So, thank you. :-)
There are some comma splices that are bugging me, too. But you're right, it's good enough that I don't mind. Quite as much.
Yeah, I really don't have the right temperament for WIPs; I would have *hated* waiting for the next bits on that one. Fabulous story. You can't beat CrazyStalker Jack.
Also, I'm trying to reply to your last e-mail, but Comcast's server appears to be down. I'll try again in the morning. Stupid computers.
