First off, that picture is just spectacular, and I love the little backstory you had with it. And secondly, seriously, guys? Story isn't really everything. I mean, great stories are all well and good, but there's nothing wrong with a game that allows you to sort of make the story your own, as you said. And I'd definitely like to hear more of the story you presented with the picture and whatnot. :)
That's true. Sometimes I just like messing around, exploring the world, just finding things instead of playing the quests. You can't do that with these story book games. They keep you locked on the questlines, or you have to use the sidequests to open up dialogues with companion characters to get more story. It can be done well, but it does lose its appeal.
"You can't do that with these story book games. They keep you locked on the questlines, . . ."
Yes, out of boredom I started a new game of DA2 last night, and was very quickly reminded of just exactly that - how you absolutely can't advance from "Chapter 1" to "Chapter 2" without doing some of the most bizarre quests - which the journal calls "secondary quests" (which implies to me that they are non-essential, but the game won't let you skip them). Arrgh.
And don't forget the convos. At least DA2 isn't as bad as having to go through so many conversations with the others to get somewhere with them as it is in DA:O. I find that so tiring. Sometimes I don't want to spend a lot of time talking in game. I'd just rather do stuff.
yeah...Dragon Age 1 and 2...just not into them. Nor NWN2. I understand about the story and such not being one's own. I don't want to play a story (aka those games and most JRPGs, every time I see games from Japan I think "All aboard the Story Railroad! Choo choo! Here's a bunch of dipshits that aren't even your own, hope you grow to like them, and here's a gold ring for your nose, so we can lead you!") I want to read or watch stories, and play games, and write my own, TYVM!
Yep, I'll read a book if I want to be involved in a story. Ha ha! That's about right, seriously. I lose interest in being led by the nose. I also feel like I'm just manipulating these characters by trying to figure out the dialogue trees. It's like pushing a series of buttons to witness a puppet reaction.

That's Auriel's Bow, with my retexture of it, which I'm seriously thinking of uploading to Nexus.

I'll write more of this sometime!
