Doing a Companions Quest, sent to these towers to retrieve a shard of an artifact.

Horses in Skyrim or Oblivion will attack and fight, like any good trained war mount will do.

When I played Oblivion on console I always rode horses because it was easy to fast travel to a spot near the destination that didn't have enemies. With Skyrim there's always dragons and other things so I was reluctant to use horses, even the famous Shadowmere because I didn't want them being killed by dragons, or other baddies, because I always feel bad if the horse is injured.

Fortunately modding on PC makes it easier.

Frost is a sweet horse:)

There is another mod I'd seriously like someone to make - - - - that TG quest to "fix" the mead at the Honningbrew Meadery is squirreled big-time. That idiot in the tunnels - it doesn't matter whether I go in there at lvl 10 or 35, in light armor or a full suit of Daedric, that dude drops me like a bad habit with 2 shots from his fire spells. In THAT case, being a vampire actually works against me. Oh, and even though my sneak skill is now at 100, he keyed on me from 20 feet away. For an old hermit hanging out with skeevers, that is ridiculous.

That skeever guy is nasty. I just throw summoned atronachs, etc, while keeping back, at him until he drops.

Is Frost only available through a mod, or can I get him somewhere within the vanilla game on PS3?

Go to the Bee and Barb, talk to Louis Letrush who's right inside one of the doors. He'll want you to talk someone in the prison to steal a horse from Maven Blackbriar's home in the mountains. Go do that, and you'll have the choice to either give Letrush the horse or kill Letrush to keep the horse for yourself.

Frost in the vanilla game is palomino and probably isn't marked essential, though.

Well, I guess it was inevitable. Having done nearly everything I wanted to do with Ruby, and a lot of other things that came up along the way, she's still only level 33 - so I guess I had to go ahead and join the TG & DB, and do the MQ, somewhere along the line, just to get the XP to get to level 50 (Master Trophy).

But, I was noticing that she now has 38 dungeons cleared (needs 50 for the Delver Trophy) and has 52 locks picked (needs 50 & 50 pockets picked to get Master Thief Trophy). So, joining the TG will go a LONG way to finishing off 3 irksome trophy quests.
