In light of the recent bickering, Alicia and I had a it of an idea. It's not a wonderful idea, but it seems just the thing. Let's all gather up and organise a jolly ramble over Bramble Hill, like we did in upper fourth. This Wednesday is a half hol, and Pop says it's going to be marvellously sunny all week, so I thought we could ask Jimmy to give ( Read more... )

That's a splendid idea, Darrell, and it does sound like just the thing to sort us all out. It'll be good fun, too! We haven't had a picnic in just ages, it's been such rotten weather for months, it seems.

I do hope our two head girls will have set up a bit of a working truce by then, don't you? I wonder what we can do to help...

I'm glad you approve, Sal! I think it would be splendid if we could all just shake off all our woes for a few hours, don't you?

You'll walk with me, won't you, Sally? We haven't had a good, long gab for ages, it seems! Not just us two, anyway!

Oh, I am glad you think so, Mary Lou! I don't think we've been getting on wonderfully the last few days, so I hope everything will clear up. I miss you more than you might realise, you silly duffer! If I'm blunt with you, please, please, please take me to task.

That sounds gorgeous, Darrell! Belinda and I will run right down the minute you tell us to. We do need some light-hearted fun to clear up the atmosphere.

It is a sonderful idea, Darrell. Shall we invite the West Tower girls as well, or keep it just us?

I rather thought we might keep it as a North Tower thing, Alicia. But perhaps Miss Grayling would give special consent for Betty to come along, to help her recuperate? I'm sure some fresh sea air would do her good!

Yes, I'm sure some fresh sea air would do me good as well, Darrell. Not to mention a trip out with North Tower, sounds marvellous. You're a brick!

I suppose the Grayling will say I'm not to go, now that I've started to look forward to it. Oh, I do hope not!

We don't have to swim? In winter term? I should think not!

Otherwise, it sounds like a simply wizard idea.

Well, I shall certainly be dipping my feet in, anyway! But you did catch me up there, Daphne. I'd forgotten for a moment that it was winter term!

I simply thought you were being disgustingly hearty, Darrell. But even Cornwall isn't warm enough to tempt me into swimming at this time of year.

No wonder you didn't notice it was winter. I swear you and the other sporty types don't even feel the cold, racing around like mad while the rest of us shiver and lament...

But a picnic sounds like just the thing. I'm dying for some fun.
