  • minakokitty runs Ubuntu
  • orochiserge runs Ubuntu (how's that going, by the way? - we should hook up soon to see if the update includes anything for your graphics chipset)
  • sofakingdustin has had it with Windows and its viruses and is making the jump tonight

What would you say about a challenge? I doubt you could install Ubuntu on my old iBook. (There are no video drivers that display correctly.)

Though I may avail myself to your expertise if I can get an Intel-based MacBook Pro for learning Linux purposes.

Oh, I like a good challenge - if only to say "Ah, damn, I guess it can't work after all."

Say, as a mini-challenge, can you point me to any useful links on building a good linux box? My G5 is nearing five years of age, and while it still browses the web, plays music, and even will process digital photos acceptably, I'm wondering what I should get as an upgrade. The sheer processing power of the Mac Pros kinda keeps me in that range. I am wondering how much a comparable eight-core linux machine would look like, though.

So you're looking for a machine that sports 2 quad-core processors? Do you prefer AMD, Intel, or whichever is cheapest? :)

I am thinking of joining the party, also. Damn you.

Your damning is noted. The party will burn you a CD next time you come up for roleplaying.

I have spoken with your husband I think I'll let you and minakokitty figure out a nice weekend day soon for us to hang out and do nerdy things.

I am contemplating installing it on my Vista laptop, but am really scared with messing up the current install since it's for my business.

How good is its wireless connectivity to routers and printers?

I set up orochiserge with a Vista dual-boot without issues. He uses Windows to play WoW since the drivers for his Intel chipset are kind of awful.

I'm not sure what you mean about the router/printer question. Does your printer allow Wi-Fi or bluetooth connections to it, or is it hooked up to a wireless access point that shares the printer as a Samba device?

Do you have a disc I can use to install with? My burns never work right, and I'm still waiting (7 weeks) for my free copy I requested.

My printer is Wi-Fi, and I have your basic wireless router setup. Last time I used Ubuntu I had a hard connection, so I don't know how good its wireless connectivity is (which I trust is good).

I'll tell ya, everytime a new ubuntu comes out I give it a shot. I like to use it, I kinda want to use it...but everything for me is running just peachy. The conversion for me is just way too much.
