Loren had wanted to be a detective all his life. He was born in Las Vegas to an ex-stripper and casino manager, making friends with Amy Fisher when they were in first grade.
Loren left Vegas as quickly as he could, moving to California and enrolling in the police academy. He worked his way up to homicide detective and decided he should move to New York to prove to Amy that he wasn’t completely talking out of his ass when he said he wanted to be a detective.
When he got to New York, he was immediately introduce to the crime in the city, ending up in the middle of a gang war, and having Don Flack on his case about why he was there. He met Lindsay Monroe soon after, taking a liking to her.
He’s assertive and enjoys being the boss, even if it is rare. Loren doesn’t take well to insults and takes his anger on suspects and uses sarcasm. The receiving end of his anger is usually Amy, who gladly lets him take a go at her, but on occasion Hawkes or Marty are receiving the cynicism.
Loren gets along with the coroners, and visits them whenever he can. His attitude toward Danny is somewhat hostile due to the fact that he’s dating his best friend (sometimes), as well as not getting on well with Adam or Detective Cazanov.

He get's along with his younger sister Lisa about as well as he get's along with Amy. Lisa's outspoken and a little too freespirited for Loren's taste. She get's in more trouble than she should, mostly becuase she's an artist and takes her art too far. She mostly does demonstrations, but dabbles in photography and wire sculptures (something's together). Oliver is Loren's younger brother. He's about 16 years old and still lives in Vegas. Loren's very close to Oliver, and speaks to him almost every day (usually on MSN).
