when I started hearing pattering on my roof. Phew! I (vicariously) share your relief. They've been talking about the lack of any hope of rain even on the UK news - and the advancing speed of the fire - and I've been so worried about you. Sharing hopes that the rain keeps up and the wind keeps down.
Thanks, m'dear! I'll admit that when I stepped out and felt the rain, I actually clapped my hands in glee and did a little victory dance! (sounds like a scene out of Oklahoma, doesn't it? lol) It's not much, but it's been so very stressful over the last five days that it was a much needed lift.
It's on and off and not really heavy, but after everything it's just so very welcome.
I just noticed all of my typos in my post! Good grief! That's what stress and lack of sleep will do to you - I'm so chuffed about the rain, though, that I couldn't be bothered correcting. It's legible, so that'll do!
Been away for so long but heard you were posting updates. So, so, so pleased to hear this. Will continue to think and hope for you and do my own little rain dance.
Thanks, darling - and dance away! I'm open to any and all possibilities at the moment! lol
The helicopters are going over with water buckets like mad, and the clouds have cleared in Lithgow, but my valley has its own micro climate and it's still drizzling on and off. I've heard it's also doing the same thing in valleys within the centre of the fire where crews can't get to. I know it's most probably evaporating before it hits the ground with the intense heat there, but the increased humidity has got to help, if even a little. It will also help with burning embers spreading.
The BBC have at last noticed what's going on. It scared the bejeesus out of me for you as they predicted heavy winds, but from what you say they haven't materialised. Thank goodness. How's A doing with the exam situation. Coping I hope. Fingers crossed that the rain keeps falling.
He has his math exam this afternoon and seems ok at the moment, but he internalises a lot.
He's had a couple of emotional meltdowns - not surprisingly, but they've been short lived and I'm actually glad he's been able to vent a bit.
The wind is picking up a bit - it's blowing at around 30km/hr at the moment, but we'll see what happens later. The RFS decided to join up the Mt Victoria fire through backburning along the eastern edge of our valley in the hopes that if the wind picks up more, the fire will hopefully head east to fill the gap.
I'll be posting a bit later with a bit more info on how it's worked.
It certainly is! Especially under these conditions. Thanks for the well wishes, m'dear! It's a very stressful waiting game and we all know it could change at any time, but we're keeping our fingers crossed.
