On Double Standards and the Age of Consent

Sep 03, 2011 17:48

I've been pondering on this subject for quite some time, and I just thought I'd put it out for others to consider and hopefully discuss in a rational manner -

This is a subject that could be quite emotive, I realise, but I hope no one flames me for posting on it - I mean no offence to anyone.

There have been more than a few instances of people having ( Read more... )

art, writing, discussion, age of consent

The legal age of 16 marriage without parental consent has been the law in Scotland since 1929. Before that the legal age for marriage without parental consent was 12 for girls and 14 for boys in Scotland, but in England anyone under 21 required parental consent to marry, which is why they eloped across the border to Gretna Green.
I reckon if you're producing anything about a supposedly British institution you should probably stick to the laws of that land, but in the end it is fantasy and not real life. I mean, they're wizards & witches, for goodness sake!
Should we also not write about assault, rape, murder, etc? Given that these too are illegal.

Putting adult filters or restrictions on to prevent or discourage young impressionable people reading or viewing adult material, when they have little or no life experience to compare these things to is not a problem in my eyes - children need to be protected so their development isn't impaired ( ... )

That's why I'm here. And I generally write about people who are in control of their emotions and their decisions. Long live the fantasy.

I am a little perplexed at your tale of the discipline taken against the lecturer when his relationship with a former student was revealed. That really is unnecessary. If they didn't start anything until well after she had left I really don't see what business it is of theirs.

Thank you, sweetie. I'm thinking of ganking heavily from this posting on a journal entry for dA. I am just sickened by the amount of abuse being hurled at Sempra. Her latest message was literally bombarded with the nastiest bile I've ever seen. Apparently it's okay to have an opinion, as long as it doesn't differ from theirs.

Gank away, my dear, gank away!

And you're quite welcome - I just call 'em as I see 'em.

How people who consider themselves artists can be so close minded is puzzling to me, to say the least. They're shooting themselves in the foot really, aren't they? Or so it seems to me.

I just added a reply to quaffswinegaily with some stuff you may find relevant too.

I think it's a worthy subject for discussion and contemplation.

I really don't know that JKR is disgusted by the idea of her characters being put in sexual situations in general - I haven't read anything she's said along those lines - it doesn't mean she hasn't - I just haven't come across any ( ... )

This whole situation is bothering me. My comment has nothing to do what you posted.

Its a power grab by bullies. Nothing more and nothing less.

Hugs.

Yes, I went over to DA and saw the horrible things written there - once again the anonymity of the net and the perceived pecking order on a site has brought out the worst in some. It's a great pity, isn't it?

That situation brought this subject to mind for me once again - it's a situation that hasn't sat comfortably with me for quite a while, and I thought I'd put it out there for discussion.

So far, no one's tied me to a stake and threatened to barbeque me, so that's something.

Even if I end up a crispy critter, I think I can handle it.

Well the used a flame thrower on me. but I also posted what I did to provoke a reaction. I fully knew I would get that reaction. =) Stupid little girls. I find funny in hipocaracy sense that one they have the4 nerve tosay I have no business enjoying HP as a 48 year old (because I am an old lady...ROTFLMAO) , yet this 22 yo young woman has a pink my little pony avatar and art work. (also copywrited). I am thinking, what are you? a 4 year old? They cannot see the duality- is both pitful and sad they have no perspective or critical thinking skills or even self awareness of their behavior. They cannot recognize that what the accuse others of, they equally guilty of the same things.

What 's worse is they vote. Worse, they will probably reproduce because men will fuck anything, really.

Hannible Lector was correct on the state of humanity.
