Make mine music

Aug 16, 2010 14:15

My brains are rapidly dribbling out my ears these days, I've noticed. For instance, right now, I should be working hard on a server rebuild, but I can't seem to find the mental capacity. What brain power I still have at the moment is all focused on the Big Day 5 days from now ( Read more... )

I didn't realize my son and his wife-to-be hadn't selected any music until they asked me to whip up a program the DAY before I was leaving home to travel to their city. They hadn't selected anything on the program, and when I asked them what they wanted for their service, my son groaned and told me to just handle it. I would have loved to have chosen special music, but we were at the point that I had to choose music that was well known to the organist, so I selected some of my favorite classics. If I'd had time, I would have chosen a John Williams selection for background music at the reception:

I enjoyed your post about trying to be subtle about your geekishness because of the Muggles who wouldn't understand and appreciate it. Bumberjean loves dragons and medieval themes, but she didn't feel as though she could indulge at her wedding without freaking out her parents and others. I did manage to sneak in a tiny, subtle dragon onto her program, and she was delighted.

John Williams has created a lot of beautiful music, hasn't he? =)

It's nice that you were able to help your daughter-in-law out with the program. As I've been going through the wedding process, I've noticed that the idea that it's the brides day so she can have anything she wants isn't really real. There are so many people the bride has to worry about freaking out or appeasing with certain things. Fortunately for me, my family's been pretty open, but I've been hearing from friends about meddling from family members in their weddings.

I'm lucky enough that most of his family are geeks, and are willing to indulge me. It's just my family who won't get it. =)

Both Bumberjean and Bojojr were working full-time and taking a large load of master's classes. Finals were just a week or two before their wedding, and they didn't have the time or brain power left to mess with wedding plans ( ... )
