God, that pissed me off too. What about honouring his commitment to his teammates, rather than leaving them a man down at the end of the game? Not to mention the fact that my own family's values don't include resorting to violence just because somebody calls you names

What about honouring his commitment to his teammates, rather than leaving them a man down at the end of the game? Not to mention the fact that my own family's values don't include resorting to violence just because somebody calls you names. Huge word and word. He wasn't the only one on that team playing in his last hurrah, besides which, he was the captain. What about the honour of acting with dignity when you're wearing your country's shirt? What about the passion for the game, of showing Materazzi what's what by playing well and kicking his ass fair and square? Argh. The whole thing aggravates me. That incident you describe is a perfect exemplar.
Yeah. I think I definitely need to avoid the Guardian's football section, anyway. I was already pissed off over that retarded MBM report that talked about how "all the players must have gotten together before the game and agreed not to act like women" because the diving was at a minimum. Like, when did they hire Thierry Henry?
I feel bad for Zidane though. Materazzi got the cup and he continues to play. Zidane went out on a massive low. That sucks considering he was an awesome player. At least he got the Golden Ball.
Speaking of which, please excuse me while I go see if that Cesc/Torres slash has been updated.
Zidane went out on a massive low. That was of his own doing and doesn't seem to have affected his overall reputation in any truly significant way. I don't have much sympathy, as much as I have loved him as a player. Yes, it was a sad way for him to go out, but the saddest thing about it for me was that he did it to himself. The fact that he got the Golden Ball is an embarassment to FIFA, in my opinion, especially since he really only had a couple great games in this tournament.
Hee! She writes it so fast, it seems like every time I turn around there's an update! It takes me about a week to write what she seems to do in one evening.
But I just feel bad that he'll feel bad when he looks back on it. Yeah, I understand that. I think it just really irks me that he seems to have done his best to avoid taking any responsibility for his own actions. I mean damn, if you're going to go nuts and headbutt a guy on the world stage, be a man and own it!
It didn't surprise me that they gave it to him, actually. I think that often people voting on those types of awards have the urge to give it to the outgoing legend, whether it's truly deserved in that instance or not. But I would have given it to Cannavaro.
So true. V. bad habit. Once I got hooked I even tried reading other football slash, but it was horrifying and I had to go wash out my eyes, heh. (Seriously, so many bad writers in this fandom! Why!)
I just saw that! Let's just say that it's a good thing I'm not within headbutting distance of any FIFA officials right now. Then again, I think I'd have an ironclad argument for provocation.

It will never be okay. In fact, it'll just get worse. I've learned this the hard way.

I was a little suprised when he got the Golden Ball. I expected someone else to get it. I mean, a lot of other guys had better games (I thought).
Yeah, she's fast and good. She's like the crack/fic dealer. It's a terrible habit.
