Dear Diary

Yuck! I woke up this morning and what do I find on my back doorstep when letting the dogs out to pee? A mostly eaten dead squirrel. At fist I though something weird got blown into the yard, then I saw what it was, ACK! Poor squirrel. SOMETHING IS BIG ENOUGH TO EAT A SQUIRREL ON MY DOORSTEP!! This means the dogs will not be going into the backyard ( Read more... )

Opposums generally won't pick a fight with anything, although they will defend themselves. I don't know that a raccoon would chase down a healthy squirrel, but they are opportunists and I wouldn't be surprised if they'd go after an injured one. Crows are similar... I don't think they'd attack a squirrel at random but they would certainly grab a dead (or almost-dead) one. Ospreys are almost exclusively fish-eaters (their feet are specially adapted to grab fish), and most of the pet attacks blamed on ospreys are usually other hawks... and other hawks DO attack pets... and owls can too.

That's why I can't figure out what did it. I don't know anything brave enough other then crows, frogs, or an occasional possum, that ever ventured onto the screened porch.

Aw poor squirrel, but yeah...that's the wild.

LOL! My mother was always mistaken for my sister for the longest time. She'd just turned 18 two months before I was born, and like me, looked younger than she was.

People think Brandon is my brother because my mom looks younger and so do I. It's fine though, I'd rather have someone mistake me as much younger. then much older ,amiright lol

It used to piss me off as a teenager when people thought I was younger. But they said one day I'll be glad. They were right. Haha!

I know isn't it great! Even if people still call me kid, I'd rather be 'kid' then 'old person' lol

You got fox there? I don't know if foxes eat squirrels...
Raccoons? Gators? Crocs? Hawks? Squirrels are rodents so perhaps a hawk would consider one.

Owls?

All guesses. Aside from the cane toads you told me about, I've no idea what lurks at night in your yard!

The "just another sister" I did find funny too!

The gators, coyotes, and foxes don't manage to get into the yard because of the tall fence Although I have seen them around. lol

Usually what gets in are things that can climb fences, jump from tree to tree, or just fly over the fence.

Could have been an owl. :)
