Casper and her both desperately need to rest, and they both want to see their files. It only makes sense that they sit down at the first bench they find ( Read more... )

"Sure. On the count of three?" Caspar smiles nervously. He's a little scared of what he'll find, too, considering Irene's reaction to what she's already read.

He takes a moment to gather his thoughts. The bustle of the city streets is nearby, but it isn't overpowering. He can even see the gates of the zoo from here. That's funny, he didn't know this city had a zoo. But all large cities have zoos, don't they?

He shakes his head, then puts a hand on his folder, ready to turn it. "One... two..."

"... three."

Irene opens the file.

Name: Irma
Age: Estimated 18
Height: 5'5
Weight: 135

And there was a picture of her. Next to it.

Subject has shown unusual abilities. Watch closely to see if anything triggers them. Subject also formerly had multiple personalities, watch to see if they reappear. Possible potential for experimentation. Subject also seems to have a very strong adversity to mirrors.Irene turns the page ( ... )

Caspar opens his at the same time.

Name: Harold Smith
Age: 30
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 180

How funny, those are his statistics. He continues reading.

Subject does not leave his home. He does not appear to suffer any physical abnormalities. His location in is an area of high non-human activity. Watch subject for any extrasensory abilities.

He turns the page, and there is a photograph of himself with a young blond woman. The woman in the mirror. Another photograph shows himself in clothing he doesn't recognize, tending to some flowers.

This is ridiculous. He's an accountant, not a florist. He's never taken care of a plant a day in his --

Arundiana bambusaefolia. Bamboo orchid. Sobralia decora. The names come to him unbidden.

The papers shake a little in his hand. He looks over at Irene, but she appears to be in even worse shape. "I don't know. It's... it's like these are folders about us, but all the facts are different."

Irene needs a distraction to get out of the pages of the file - when Caspar talks, she looks over at him. "My friend and I... we talk about the City, and how it's always weird, and stuff, but I never thought..."

Then something clicks.

"This city - what's it's name? Everybody calls it 'The City' and nothing else... My dad would tell me about New York and Boston and all the places he's been, and... they had names. Surely a city just can't be called 'The City', right? Right?" There's a bit of a nervous tremor in the last five words.

There are thoughts and ideas bubbling in the back of her mind, and she wants to look at them so badly, but something tells her - just let them stew until you have the words to speak them.
