By all rights, Mary should be in the city's hospital, doing her monthly check up instead of looking out at the water front. Especially since that hospital is only a block away from where she is, and she's supposed to be honor an appointment she made

"Oh, you're that Alan Crawford, the-" She somehow has the presence of mind not to say 'the cripple' out loud, even with her thoughts still floating around and her tongue loose.
Even though the only reason she can dig up the name is is due to the wheelchair; there aren't many students with those at the school. "...From the hockey team?" Mary says instead.
"It is. I was just watching the lights..." She trails off again as she says that, to go back to watching the city lights on the far side of the bank.

That's the problem with only knowing people by reputation, he supposes, trying not to point out that he's formerly from the hockey team. That's obvious enough. "That's right," he confirms instead. He watches the other side of the bank for a moment, but the silence stretches on between them. He's not sure it bothers her, but it's starting to eat at him. "Do you usually come down here? I come this way a lot, but I'm not sure I've seen you before."

"I like to watch the lights..." She murmurs softly, and it takes work to keep that sing-song tone out of her voice; enough that she's only half successful at it. Mary also doesn't have the presence of mind to stop talking either, and so she continues. "They look so nice when they dance."

He doesn't even give Mary a glance, but his shoe catches on a crack and he stumbles a little, dropping his suitcase. Shoot.

"...Sir? You need to be careful; the ground here isn't very straight, or stable at times. I know." And she certainly sounds like she speaks from experience on that.

"Yes, it truly does. That's actually why I took a seat, myself; it's best to ride these things out." She gestures to the bench, and several more close by, to back up her point. "Better then risking a fall, at the very least."
