Zach was at a party when his life changed.
He was trying to cut out early; the full moon was the next night and Zach's usual iron clad control had been shaky lately. His wolf seemed antsy, on edge; it was like he was waiting for something to happen.
Zach wouldn't have even bothered coming, but it was Kristen's party and he knew she was counting on him showing up. Kristen was the closest thing he had to a friend; besides Joe -and Joe was usually working or pining, both of which Zach wanted nothing to do with.
Zach was slowly making his way over to where Kristen was, smiling and talking to strangers like he was born to it, when the breeze shifted and the most arousing scent he'd ever smelled hit him right in the face.
He paused, all his attention immediately focused on that smell; his wolf immediately went en pointe, uncurling from where he was resting, pushing against the inside of Zach's skin and demanding Zach go find whoever belonged to that scent and pin him to the ground.
Zach tilted his head and closed his eyes, zeroing in on the direction the scent was coming from and instantly heading that way with all the single-minded intensity of a predator smelling the blood of it's prey.
Whoever it was, he smelled fucken delicious; masculine, and like snow, and the ocean, and, Jesus, like some undefinable thing that was home.
Zach tracked it down to a patio table tucked around the side of Kristen's house, in the middle of the trees that dotted the right section of her yard.
He had dark blond hair and he tuned as to face Zach as soon as Zach paused to look at him. Impossibly blue eyes met brown ones shot with yellow and Zach felt his whole self realign until the center of his universe contracted to the human who was now grinning at him unashamedly.
He was looking Zach over, his eyes slightly confused but happy to see him all the same.
“Hey, have we met before?” He asked, his voice making Zach's wolf lunge against the control Zach had wrapped around it. “'Cause I've got to tell you -as fucken weird as this sounds- I kinda feel like I've been waiting for you to show up.”
That's when it hit Zach -even as his wolf growled possessively; completely fucken delighted at this turn of events, the fucken traitor- hard enough to make him stumble back a few steps.
With those few words, Zach felt everything click into place in his mind.
“No,” he breathed out, his voice hoarse. “No.”
