After Operation Walkaway didn't work, Dean felt even more conflicted and even more shitty than usual. He knew he couldn't be the only one torn about leaving, but it didn't matter in his head. He still felt guilty, still felt like he was alone in feeling grateful that at the end of the day, he wasn't the Weird One. Wasn't alone. He could go to ( Read more... )

Wendy was just passing through when she noticed the man floating in the pool. He was so still. She turned off her cassette player, pulled out her headphones, and just stood for a moment, wondering what everyone's fascination with the pool is. She'd never been in there herself. She looked to make sure he was ok and she was curious.

She'd only spoke to him once, when he arrived, but maybe...eh, she shouldn't bother him, should she?

Dean couldn't hear anything but the low thrum of blood in his ears. He idly splashed a bit to one side, making sure he didn't hit the side of the pool. He felt himself relax, breathing slowing down, and he sat up a bit to make sure he didn't fall asleep in the pool.

He blinked when he saw Wendy.

"You're that chick that I met when I first got here. Hey. Uh. Sorry for being a dick."

The comment was so...plainly said. It kind of reminded her of Neil, but she was trying to stay away from thinking about him. If only because it would make her miss him too much. "I also go by Wendy, but I don't blame you if you've forgotten my name 'cause to be honest, I've forgotten yours as well."

She sat on the side of the pool, leaning back on her arms with her legs crossed in front of her. There is a first time for everything, but not when you're wearing your favorite pair heeled boots and can't bear to take 'em off.

"Wendy's shorter. I'll use that." He winked at her, and moved off of his back so he could tread water. "I'm Dean."

She seemed nice enough, but wondered if she couldn't swim. Then again, it was probably a 'no swimsuit' issue. Most people seemed pretty uncomfortable stripping in front of some guy they'd only met once.

"So, uh, how are you?" Dean hated smalltalk.

[NB: This is the last thread, after anyone who posts has left.]

River had been passing by the pool when she'd caught a glimpse of legs floating in the pool. She'd stood on her tiptoes and seen that it was Dean.

She'd tossed the door open and fairly run to the side of the pool, but once she was able to see he was breathing, her heart climbed back down and settled amidst her other innards. River sat on the wet pool deck, not really caring about the wetting of her clothes. She just folded her legs underneath her and smiled at how peaceful he looked.

Dean felt like he was being watched. He couldn't tell why, really, but it felt like eyes were moving over his torso and face. He opened one eye, grinning when he saw her. He sat up a bit, swimming toward her, and putting his arms on the side of the pool.

"Hey there, Short Stuff. You bored? C'mon in."

River blinked. "What ... stuff ... of mine is short?" But the rest of the phrase was simple, and she nodded, a small smile floating across her face. She rose, padding over to the door and locking it firmly. She had no swimming suit at the moment, after all.

She walked over by the stairs into the pool, quickly shedding her dress and walking into the water. It was rather nice to have someone looking at her like he was looking at her, and River smiled again, going as far into the pool as she could touch the bottom.

"You? Compared to me, you're tiny." He blinked hard when she locked the door, wondering if she was going to do what he wanted her to do. When she did, he grinned broadly, staring at her legs and skinny hips as she made her way into the water.

He swam int the shallow end, standing up and shaking his head to get the excess water out of his hair. Dean walked toward her, wondering why the hell she liked him so much. Maybe she doesn't know how I fuck everything up.

It was decidedly a good day for a swim, after discovering the conservatory, several days earlier, Penny thought she might check out the rest of the hotel. She hadn't much, yet. Mostly being in her room and not caring one way or another. But she really didn't care that she was here, if she wasn't here she would be somewhere else. So what if they were "prisoners"? She'd been a prisoner all her life...just hadn't known it. She came into the pool area, saw the man floating and took the far side of the pool to ease into and start doing laps.

The water was moving, waves lapping at his sides faster than they had before. He opened his eyes, sitting up, and grinning appreciatively at the girl doing laps. She was pretty. Are all the chicks here hot? Not that it mattered much anymore - he was taken, and even though it was new, it still mattered - but he still appreciated the female form.

The girl looked up noticing him watching her. She cocked an eyebrow at him, but didn't stop as she flipped herself over planting her feet against the side and starting another lap. "You like watching people?" It wasn't said in a derogatory way. Just a simple statement.

"Just observing." He treaded water with his arms and legs, shrugging as best he could in the water. "Don't think I've met you, and I thought I'd met almost everyone."
