After Operation Walkaway didn't work, Dean felt even more conflicted and even more shitty than usual. He knew he couldn't be the only one torn about leaving, but it didn't matter in his head. He still felt guilty, still felt like he was alone in feeling grateful that at the end of the day, he wasn't the Weird One. Wasn't alone. He could go to ( Read more... )

It was decidedly a good day for a swim, after discovering the conservatory, several days earlier, Penny thought she might check out the rest of the hotel. She hadn't much, yet. Mostly being in her room and not caring one way or another. But she really didn't care that she was here, if she wasn't here she would be somewhere else. So what if they were "prisoners"? She'd been a prisoner all her life...just hadn't known it. She came into the pool area, saw the man floating and took the far side of the pool to ease into and start doing laps.

The water was moving, waves lapping at his sides faster than they had before. He opened his eyes, sitting up, and grinning appreciatively at the girl doing laps. She was pretty. Are all the chicks here hot? Not that it mattered much anymore - he was taken, and even though it was new, it still mattered - but he still appreciated the female form.

The girl looked up noticing him watching her. She cocked an eyebrow at him, but didn't stop as she flipped herself over planting her feet against the side and starting another lap. "You like watching people?" It wasn't said in a derogatory way. Just a simple statement.

"Just observing." He treaded water with his arms and legs, shrugging as best he could in the water. "Don't think I've met you, and I thought I'd met almost everyone."

"Well, I', Penny Posin, and you probably haven't met me because I haven't met a lot of people, and I wasn't in on the silly walk-out or whatever you call it. The hotel is smart, it's not going to be fooled by a bunch of people who think it's smarter." Of course that was jut her own opinion, but after being practically attacked by the damn thing.

Dean blinked hard. Her name sounded like she was from a comic book, like Lois Lane or something. But hell, maybe her parents had a weird sense of humor.

"I did it to sort of support some people I know. To be... nice." He shrugged again, as if to say that being nice wasn't something he did frequently.

"I don't know anyone here that well, maybe I'm just anti-social or don't know how to make friends and stuff." She would have shrugged if she could, but as she was swimming that was hard to do. "Sometimes it doesn't pay to be nice."

Dean blinked. She was either putting up a big 'I'm A Bitch, Don't Hurt Me' front, or she really was sort of... not nice. He blinked and shrugged a little and continued watching her.

"Still. Nice to have at least one person watching your back."

"Yeah, I used to think that, until the person watching my back decided to stab me instead." She continued her swimming. "I've only ever had my mom since I was born. Never knew my dad. Never knew my dad, we could be siblings for all I know. No offense," She said quickly. "I just mean I don't know and I doubt my mom knew either, he was a mark, that was all. She stole his money and something else apparently. She taught me too...We've been partners for years until I screwed up. I fell for the mark. She left." She didn't care if people here knew, what were they going to do? Throw her in jail?

Dean blinked. That was a lot of information. "Uh. Sorry. Didn't mean to open the can of worms on that." He blinked and looked down at the distorted outline of his legs in the water. It was somewhat comforting to know he wasn't the only one with an abnormal childhood, but still.

He figured he wouldn't tell her right away about his own personal run-ins with the law. Better to just leave "wanted for murder that I didn't do, but the FBI doesn't understand what a shapeshifter is" out of it.

"It was already open, believe me." She sighed. "Any way, thanks for listening." She climbed out of the pool grabbing her towel. "See you around..." And paused. "Sorry, I never caught your name."

Dean blinked. No matter how many of them they met, he swore he'd never understand women.

"Dean Winchester. And you're welcome."

She paused. "Oh, your Dean..." She nodded. "Well, see you later." She waved before leaving the pool.

Dean blinked, waving and watching her go. Was he getting a reputation that he was unaware of? The only people he'd been with at the Hotel were Lisa and Ellen, and they seemed pretty tightlipped.

He shrugged, and laid back down in the water, floating and forgetting the incident.
