Yeah, people find it more convenient to blame their "mistakes/quick temper/not bothering to read the instructions" on others rather than not rush and take the time to understand what's going on. I feel for you.
Are you allowed to snap back / hang up when customers get abusive? Because as far as I'm concerned, the second those words come into play in a situation like the one you're describing, the person saying them has officially forfeited their right to expect a respectful and professional response.
I can be as condescending as I like in response to them without the use of profanity and I can hang up or transfer them to an arbitrary out of use extension or my manager with no explanation. All of those words were used by two customers (dealing with the same issue, mind you) within twenty minutes. As far as I was concerned the wankers could go fuck themselves, particularly because despite having one hell of a temper I have never ever cursed out or name called at anyone, no matter what the issue or who was at fault.
Also, that website is one of my most frequently viewed, having been working in sales or customer service for 10 years. I need to hurry up and start selling hemp bracelets in Central America for a living already. That or tattooing. Whichever dream presents itself first.
Judas Priest! They have just created a new circle in hell for those types of customers. Although, anyone using the second and third words doesn't know they are COMPLIMENTING me, so it usually works to my advantage.
I know! Those two didn't bug me so much, but I needed to include them for posterity's sake. The ones that pissed me off most were "Incapable of logical thought" since clearly, logic dictates that I shouldn't say "fuck you, you sexist douche" before hanging up in order to keep my job (despite wanting to oh - so - badly) and "thoughtless woman" for the aforementioned sexism.
Also miss Jen, I missed you on the interwebs! *big hugs*
