Party on the beach.

Sep 07, 2007 21:04

It's a beautiful, sunny day on the beach. The ocean is a shimmering blue, and there isn't a cloud in the sky. The sand is warm without scorching, and the water is a perfect temperature. In fact, it might be the most wonderful day, weatherwise, that the beach has ever seen (It probably helps that Sarah is close friends with the person who actually ( Read more... )

June shows up wearing a cute little pink and red-ribboned bikini... over her usual blue polka-dotted outfit. She's also wearing a little white sunhat with red ribbons and a pink flower on it, and is carrying a large, clear baggie filled with star-shaped, multicolored, melt-in-your-mouth mints.

"Sarah! ♥ I brought you something!"

Sarah makes her way to June, not entirely awkwardly. "June! I'm so glad you could make it." She smiles warmly at her guest. "What are those? They're pretty."

Schreber is two steps behind with his hands kind of out, just in case Sarah stumbles. He smiles at June. "Thank you! You didn't have to..."
A raven swoops around both their heads and lands on his shoulder and cocks its head at June.

"They're candies! I hope you like them! ♪"

June offers the bag to Sarah, while looking at the raven in clear delight. "Oh, what a pretty bird! ♥"

Hanatarou had thought about bringing daikon or bok choy, but some kind of ready-to-serve side dish seemed better... there was something uncouth (it seemed to him) about bringing something that one did not personally know how to prepare, since there was the implicit idea that one's host would be burdened with preparing it (and knowing how to). (Not that he'd mind if he brought something that wasn't served, but the host might feel that he would, which would be another burden.) He'd also considered something like a cookbook with recipes for Asian vegetables, but he didn't know where to find an English-language version... and besides, it wasn't a very party-relevant kind of thing to bring. And he wasn't going to have a lot of time to wander around a Tokyo department store to find something else that did seem suitable... And even though bringing extra food to a party seemed somewhat normal and polite in his head, mightn't there be some hosts who would see it as a statement that their guest did not think them capable of producing an ( ... )

Sarah would have been delighted with any of the above options (although admitted confused by either bok choy or daikon... or a cookbook in a language she can't read). All she wanted was the company of her friends, however, so Hanatarou's presence is gift enough.

"Hey there," Sarah smiles easily, hoping a casual greeting will put Hana at ease. She seems surprised by the bunny-like Pokemon with him. "Hi sweetie," she coos at Bun, before looking back at Hana curiously. "What's she doing with you? "

Schreber is not far behind with a raven on his shoulder. He doesn't know Hanatarou well but Sarah's friends all seem nice and he smiles and pets the raven to soothe it. "Hello! Would you like a drink or anything?" He is learning to play host since Sarah's been hurt.

"Hello!" Hanatarou greets cheerfully. (He had uncertainty and some small measure of angst while pondering the options beforehand, but he's all right now!) "Thank you very much for having me. It's nice to see you again; you look great."

He turns to Daniel and bows courteously. "It's wonderful to see you as well, Dr. Schreber. Um, I'd like... punch? Or anything is fine, really. Thank you."

"Oh, well," he says, resting his hand on top of Bun's head, "Jeff got some kind of thing that made him unable to get back to his apartment, so I'm watching her for a while. I brought her along since I thought she might have fun, but of course I can easily take her home, as well." (He did bring a bit of her food, just in case it started to look like she was going to devour more than a proper share of the vegetable-related food items.)

"We're glad to see you!" Schreber smiles and hurries to take the basket and get it to the food tables. Fruit is fruit and they'll be happy with it whether it's from the jungle or not. There is getting to be a lot of food with people bringing stuff...

Sarah comes over at this point, looking a little tired on her feet but not terribly awkward, either. "Hi Kaa," she beams, petting him on the head. "Glad you could make it."

She looks around -- there are other beachgoers, natives to Shell Beach, but Kaa is right; they might glance over at the party, but they only smile blandly as if to say "Oh, a party, how nice" before continuing on their way. Sarah sighs softly and nods. "I figured. We're very good at rationalizing away things that don't fit into our reality. I don't know if the Strangers did something to us or that's just how the human mind works." She hopes it's not the latter, because that's rather depressing.

Here is Harley! Since this is her first time to Dark City, she looks around the place with wide appreciative eyes. Sarah's house is beautiful and the food looks great. The hostess looks smashing and the host looks charming.

Since Harley still owes the city a tree (and a loader to go with it), and that is a little hard to carry Harley places a little teleporter on the gift pile. The teleporter will bring the 'gifts' to Sarah and Schreber when they are ready for them.

Spike is currently missing from Harley's arm, but is due to show up any moment. Meanwhile, Harley waits her turn to greet the hosts with a smile and good tidings.

Shell Beach is rather beautiful. It's the newest part of the city, and the dearest to the city's maintainer.

Sarah spots Harley's arrival and walks over (with the help of two metal braces). "Harley, you made it. It's so good to see you." She gives the other woman a warm hug. "Can I get something to drink?"

Here is Orwell! So many people! It was time to get off Schreber's shoulder and fly around a little, greet people and mingle and maybe share some worms? The raven lands on Sarah's shoulder and starts chattering at her and Harley.

Sarah laughs softly at Orwell's chattering, giving him an affectionate scritch on the neck. "This is Orwell, Daniel's raven. Doctor Crane gave him to Daniel. He has a lot to say sometimes."
