Finally.
I'm making a new post for this now, but I didn't want to wait until tomorrow. And I didn't want to post it under the psycho topic either.
So here goes the translation of the "Tell me about Vamps"-section of the Monthly VAMPS 9. It has Kanata Hongo talking about Hyde and saying some of the cutest things about him. This interview really shows what a great person Hyde is. And if he doesn't want to talk about himself, we'll just ask all of his friends.
Translation and scan behind the cut.
Please do not post this translation elsewhere. There may be mistakes and I don't want to spread them all over the web. Thank you.
Monthly VAMPS 9
Tell me about Vamps
Guest: Hongo Kanata
Target: --> Hyde
In the section "Tell me about Vamps?" we introduce friends of the band who have met them through their rock music and they will tell us (of) an episode that they experienced together with one of Vamps' members.
This time a "sworn friend", the child-actor, who Hyde co-starred with in the movie Moon Child, will talk about Hyde.
- When was the first time you met Hyde?
I was in the 5th grade of primary school and co-starred in a movie called "Moon Child" with him, playing a child-version of Gackt's character. I also had scenes together with Hyde, but I didn't know at all who he was, because I was still just a 5th grade student. If I think about it now... Didn't I say a lot of rude / disrespectful things (back then)? I think I really did. (laughs)
- What was your impression of Hyde when you first met him?
I had the impression that he was a super nice/friendly older brother. Even when I was so tense that I couldn't speak properly he would talk to me in a gentle voice, or he would say "Let's go eat together today" and invite me. He was a really nice/friendly older brother.
- The shooting of Moon Child took place in Taiwan, right? (Moon Child was filmed in Taiwan, wasn't it?)
That's right. Over there they have so called "night-markets", a lot of festival-like night-stands and (that's why we) went together to one. Hyde tried out a shooting gallery there and won a Doraemon-plushie for me.(laughs)
- That's a wonderful story. But at that time you didn't know what a cool person Hyde actually is, right?
That's right. After the filming was over and I came back to Japan, I slowly strated learning about him (realized who he actually is). My mother, who really likes Hyde told me that he is a cool person and let me listen to his CDs.Then, after listening to them I thought "Ah, super cool!!" and really started to like him from then on.
- I heard you're still going out, eating together.
Yes. Like, he invites me after a concert.
- What are you talking about when you're eating together?
Things like "How are you?"or "What have you been up to?". Also "Do you have a girlfriend?", he asks that one every time. (laughs). I feel that lately he doesn't treat me like a child anymore.
- From your point of view, what kind of person is Hyde?
Although the time we were together during "Moon Child" was really short, he stayed in contact with me for such a long time now and I think he is a really nice person.
- And what about Hyde as an artist?
As an artist Hyde is almost like a god, who doesn't have any weak points (not a single one), a really perfect person, I think. His songs are super cool, his voice is super cool, his looks are super cool, and he is a really hard working person. He's someone who always walks ahead and I think that (kind of attitude) is something to strive for and it's really cool.
- Do you think you want to follow Hyde's attitude?
No, no, I'm not that bold. (laughs) But even though he is such a great person he is never satisfied with things as they are and quickly challenges himself with new things, which I think is really cool and I want to become like that as well.
- I see. By the way, have you watched one of Vamps' concerts?
Yes, I went to the "Nightmare of Halloween"-show. It feels like Vamps' rock is really cool, and that's the kind of music Hyde wants to make and ... un, it was over all just really cool. How often did I say "cool" today? (laughs) Hyde in a dress for "Nightmare of Halloween" was also really beautiful.
- When you came in touch with Hyde's music did it have any kind of influence on you?
Me and my friends play in a band for fun, and lately we've been doing covers of Hyde's and L'Arc~en~Ciel's songs. Because everyone in the band really likes Hyde and L'Arc~en~Ciel.
- That's what you're doing~! By the way you wouldn't happen to be the vocalist, would you?
No, I'm the bassist or sometimes drummer... Even though I go "What? I have not the slightest desire to!!!" (laughs), when I go to karaoke-bars I sing Hyde's songs!
- What's the first song you usually go for?
That would be "Shallow Sleep"! Before, when it came to Hyde I said "It's only Hyde's songs that I can't sing", but then I was told "It's okay if you sing them the wrong way. [lit. It's okay if you don't get that far]" (laughs) But it really is like that. [I had a hell of a problem with this one, so it is most likely incorrect. In Japanese karaoke there is a game in which the machine will stop the song as soon as you hit a wrong mark. The one who gets furthest into a song wins. I think Kanata was refering to this.]
- Now, what was the most impressive / memoriable Hyde-Episode for you up until now?
When I was in the 1st grade of middle school when Hyde was busy recording he called me and said "Come visit me!" and I got into a bus and went over to visit him. I stayed for 2 or 3 days and we played together (had fun together), but I had the feeling that I was somewhat in the way sometimes. [Note: Hyde always does band rehearsals at a training camp-like place in the countryside. Can be best seen in the Vamps Live Documentary DVD.]
- Really? That must have been super awesome summer holidays for you!!
Yes! And because there (band-training-camp) were not enough rooms I got to sleep in the same room with Hyde on a bed next to his. And I was allowed to use Hyde's shampoo in the bathroom as I pleased! Really wanting to, I went "I'm gonna use it" and "Oh, it has a really nice scent". (laughs)
- Ahahahahah!
Later he said "You must be bored hanging around in the studio all the time" and took me with the car to a nearby department store. (There) the both of us took purikura.
- He's really that nice, isn't he?
He is. There were 9 purikuras but Hyde kept only 2 of them to himself and gave the rest to me. I used them on my cell phone, and gave some to my mother, because she said she'd like to have one. (laughs) Even now I still have a few at home. They're really precious to me.
- It must be a really strange feeling for your mother. You're a fan of Hyde and your own son is a friend of that Hyde and takes purikuras with him.
It must be~. It's not like "Well done!", is it? (laughs)
- And now, lastly your message to Hyde.
Ehh ... Because I like Hyde very much and as a number 1 fan was able to see Hyde so often I'm really really happy. Please continue making the things that only Vamps are able to make!
I wonder when they will ask Gackt about Hyde.
