Eating

So I've decided to make a change to my diet: I'm eating vegetarian (lacto-ovo), unless it's meat I've cooked myself or a special circumstance like I'm eating at one of Chris Schlesinger's restaurants. In practice, this means I'll be eating meat once, possibly twice a week.

Also, it means that when I do eat meat, I'm going to make sure it's a fucking ( Read more... )

Welcome aboard :-)

For when you need quick, convenient food there are many fine products available. As you're well aware, your "native cuisine" also offers some tasty options. For a while, I was having at least one 16 oz tub of hummous a week.

that's kind of what i do!! grass-fed beef is so much better for you. i'm pretty wary of eating out these days tho cuz i don't know what's in the food. i figure as long as i don't do it too often i should be ok :P

By the way, I discovered a place here in Boston that does supper clubs similar to Art of the Table: http://www.enlocale.com/

I'll be attending their next.

While I'm not sure they're so ferociously dedicated to locally grown food, that's probably to do with the fact that stuff just doesn't grow here 4 months of the year.

I'm strangely curious about why people chose various systems of eating, probably because I'm perpetually on the fence of becoming vegetarian. What prompted this? Food safely? Supporting local business? Anti-BGH?

To me it's a matter of eating as diversely as possible, and eating in a sustainable way. It takes a lot less energy to feed a human on vegetables than it does with meat. Basically I subscribe to Michael Pollan's words: eat food, mostly plants, not too much. And it was high time I put my money where my mouth is.

Good luck with that! I've tried giving up meat a few times, but there's something about chicken and turkey that my body really likes, so I stick with those. I'm staying away from red meat more and more, though.
