I decided to write about something near and dear to my heart, something i struggle with probably daily. Most people when they read this will react in one of two ways.. the achieved and ambitious will think I am an idiot, limiting myself to mediocrity. The other half, the less mentally endowed will most likely agree with my current choice, while Im ( Read more... )

it doesnt really matter which school you go to unless you are going to an ivy league school, which are very hard to get into. james you might be able to get in there which is good, but if darin would rather spend his time now doing things he likes, and then go to unh thats not a problem either. in my mind theres nothing wrong with just getting by if thats how youd rather spend your time.

Being intulectual, reading books , dedicating time to your children are all things we need to do, no we SHOULD do , but money is what makes the world go 'round, as sad as that may be ...we don't live in a "happy-go-lucky world"-- that's just reality.

Being individual and keeping pace with a different drummer is good and all if you don't consider yourself a part of the ever-present Rat Race. I for one accept the seemingly superficial values and assumptions present-day society puts upon us. Sure, avoiding any sort of beaten path is fine if you really are living in the woods, but the reality is that you need to do the school/job/family circle of death to succeed in every first-world country I know. If you're offered happiness, why not just take it instead of going out of your way seeking for something more profound? We simple humans don't need much to achieve eudaimonia; just attend that good college, land an acceptable job, and live out your life in peace. As you said, not slacking off now gives you options for later - if you don't care about the future and just plan to wing it, good luck with that. I'm much more satisfied with a smooth ride into conformity, that while in essence isn't spiritually fulfilling or anything like that, is practically guaranteed to bring prosperity and ( ... )
