Ford was being a bastard again. He'd dragged her out all day and made her 'practice' her 'skills' which most had him being a jerk and her being pissed. Either way, he'd gotten in the way of her chores all day and she was exhausted since she mostly worked at night. As retaliation, she forced him to stop at a convenient store so she could at least ( Read more... )

Being the bastard that he was, Ford had not gone into the store with her. He'd opted to remain outside and smoke one of the he did have. He really wasn't much of a smoker. Just on occasion. He didn't count on her buying a fresh pack for him, and he wouldn't mind all that much if he did run out before getting more, whether she bought some or he did later. It was just to mess with her, and if she didn't get him some he'd have another reason to mess with her ( ... )

She should have known he was coming up behind her. And when she was suddenly pressed harshly against the man behind her, the cold of the metal gun against her skin, she couldn't scream. She wanted to. She should have, but she was frozen, terrified, her heart pounding and her mind was overwhelmed. Blocking emotions was out of the question. Between the man with the gun, the fright of the cashier and then black nothingness, she was sure that this was the end of it ( ... )

"Hurry up!" So far so good, but that didn't ease the mood of the man with the gun at all. His heart was beating wildly in his chest ( ... )

There was a short whimper from Darcy when the man yelled again. The cashier was finally getting something out of the drawer when the front door opened. The tall man looked strangely normal and even more strangely calm, even when the gun was pointed at him.

Darcy whimpered his name just before the gun was pressed to her throat again. She swallowed. She was shaking and crying and if it wasn't for the man holding her hostage, she'd be on the floor. She wanted to run to him, she wanted to do something other than stand there and cry, but she had nothing left to do but pray to God that she would live.

Ford tilted his head slightly to the side, silently looking at the robber. It was hard to get a reading of actual thoughts since the guy was shifting his eyes from him to the cashier repeatedly. What he did get was that the man didn't want to shoot anybody, but he also seemed twitchy enough that it could happen anyway.

It didn't take long for Ford's staring to unnerve the robber. "Stop looking at me like that!" He yelled and once again aimed the gun at Ford. That was all the tall man needed. With the gun away from Darcy, he trapped the man when their eyes met again. Unable to move, unable to speak, the robber could only stare as Ford started to slowly move towards him. "Let her go," Ford said, giving a mental order to accompany his words. The robber did so, letting Darcy fall to the floor.

Ford stopped when the muzzle of the gun was just touching his chest. Then he gave another mental order, silently this time. The robber, with a sense of complete and utter terror in his mind, raised the gun to his own head.
