Lechon

I'm ashamed to admit, I do not like lechon at all. I never used to eat it. I actually used to find it so offensive, seeing a dead animal -with head and all- spread in all its glory in the middle of the table. Until I tasted the lechon in Antonio's restaurant in Tagaytay six years ago. He served it "German style" -- with apple sauce and herbs. It ( Read more... )

Hi miss daph,

I did saw Anthony Bourdain's RP episode. It made me sad and excited--seeing Philippines from television in such manner made me miss my country even more, and excited to see how he reacts to all our native delicacies.
My family is from Cebu, you should taste it, its really tasty unlike the lechon in Manila. Actually it is widely available even in shopping malls-SM specifically. Suggestion: eat it with "puso" (rice wrapped in leaves??) yeah. haha!

I am glad he liked sinigang, lechon and bulalo. YUMMY!

Likewise, I didn't like lechon as well. It was never my favorite until my Dad was assigned to Cebu and was able to try CNT lechon. From then on, I eat lechon (minus the fat.. eating the meat and skin only). It's the best, the flavor of the meat is different compared to lechon here in Manila. Super tasteful and it really doesn't need sauce cause it will change the overall taste.

I'm really not surprised with Anthony Bourdain's verdict that Lechon Cebu is the best. Must must must try! :D There's one branch near SM Cebu. It's a restaurant but I've never dined, just 'to go'. You can buy per kilo and even request them to pack and box the lechon for pasalubong/baon.

Don't forget the chicharon omnesia February 19 2009, 14:23:25 UTC
Cebu chicharon is also THE BEST. I forgot this brand of chicharon we once had in the office, a former boss of ours who used to be based in Cebu sent it over. The moment it touched my tongue, it melted... I have to have that chicharon again. It was in a red vacuum-sealed pack.

First tasted lechon when we went to Cebu for Ad Congress some years back.
