Gemologists are charge not less than $100 per hour for their service. You are lucky to get an advice for free. I know one thing about cut though. It doesn't mean that a diamond has 42 more facets than the typical round brilliant makes them more brilliant, dispersive and scintillating. The Tolkowski Ideal round brilliant has the most exact mathematical formula for unleasing the diamonds bestr optical properties. A diamond that has so many facets will lose brilliance and will have pinpoints effect of dispersion. In other words, too much cut is not a good thing.

love the Cento collection. the tiny sapphire makes them so adorable. my mom gave me and my sister those exact same earrings for Christmas '07. they are breathless. she got them from Saks when they had the 20% off friends-and-family deal. normally, the discount does not apply the collection but her long-time SA agreed because she bought 3 pairs (for the 3 of us). maybe you can get a better deal at Saks than Rustan's.

foodiegirl - you, your sister and your mother are so lucky. cento diamonds are so gorgeous. tell me about your rocks. these ones in rustans were VVS2 E. stunning!

oh and the red stones are rubies. all the RC pieces have a tiny ruby behind as it is believed to bring luck and happiness if it touches the skin. ancient burmese warriors wore a ruby under their skin (?) as they believe it would bring them luck, protection and peace. cute!
