evo morales on "the daily show"

hello. i'm still here.

i was gonna post ten good things tonight, but instead i nit-picked a job application LITERALLY all friggin' night long. UGH. in the realm of things i hate, editing cover letters ranks somewhere between grading student papers (thank god those days are gone!) and being punched in the crotch repeatedly. in my experience, the ( Read more... )

FUN FACT ABOUT MY BIRTHDAY: according to IMDB, i have the same birthday-- right down to the YEAR-- as shar jackson, k-fed's original baby momma:

i also share a birthday with beyonce, who's younger than me. and richard wright. and antonin artaud. and possibly ivan the terrible.

thanks a lot for the link... Hopefully without sounding too uncritical, I have to say that, for me, he is the figure who best represents what I think an ideal political leader should be like.

yeah, i said "cautious enthusiasm" because i know little more than the occasional BBC article/trip to wikipedia about the guy. but from what i gather, i'm inclined to agree. there's something fundamentally different about his understanding of profit and community, from what i've read about him.

and i gather his policies come with a lot less of that totalitarian, consolidate-and-censor type stuff you always hear about in regards to hugo chavez, for example...

Here's a Quicktime version at onegoodmove. No Starbucks or Doritos ads and the file should stay up indefinitely.

I saw it when it aired and was similarly impressed.

oh great, thanks!

i think youtube has pulled daily show clips, so i was worried this would fade into the vaults. that starbucks ad is infuriating. they play it after each segment you watch on the site. if you sit through a full episode you see it like 5 times. it was actually starting to make me want a cup of (non-starbucks) coffee... WHAT WOULD MORALES THINK OF THAT? i'm a zombie, apparently...

morales might sympathize with the craving, as he is said to have up to 24 cups of espresso a day

yikes. apparently that dude dave foley from kids in the hall is like that too. he drinks coffee almost continually from the time he wakes up until bedtime. i think if i did that i'd have to carry a portable toilet around with me. i have more than two cups and i'm running to the can every fifteen minutes...

"the worst kind of labor involves a deadly mix of intense concentration combined with mind-numbing banality"

oh man, you would hate my job.

for me, work either has to be interesting, or it at least needs to be hard enough that i have to concentrate on it. i can't stand putting data in excel, but i can deal with data analysis.

i've come to the realization that i don't mind putting my body up for sale at a job as long as i can maintain control of my mind. i'm not sure what this says about me. other than that i almost demand that i be excited about what i think about. when i'm not excited, my subconscious works dilligently to distract me from any productivity whatsoever. and when i say "my subconscious", i mean of course my livejournal...

hmm, i guess my brain is just good at mindless work while REALLY thinking about other things which are way more exciting. or maybe my high school experience as a lifeguard embittered me towards that sort of work . . .

where are you applying for jobs?

danschank September 28 2007, 17:53:12 UTC
ok, here's the distinction... mindless work is A Ok with me... if i can REALLY think about something else, than everything is cool. it's when i have to actually concentrate on totally boring nonsense that i start having problems. like, when writing a cover letter, i have to really dedicate myself to boring abstractions about how awesome i'll be if you hire me. UGH!!!!

i'm applying to pretty much any arts related non-profit in the area. actually, most of the things i've found are kinda interesting, and i like their overall projects and so forth. but no takers yet. i still have some time though before the money runs out...
