oh livejournal, i've missed you...

so, it's been a pretty busy month. i was working six shifts a week for a while there, and then got wrapped up in a very involved painting that took about 600 times longer than i expected. it's a lot bigger than the last few (3 foot square), but the imagery within is about the same size. so it was like making ( Read more... )

I really like your work. I bet it's extraordinary in person--are you getting it up to NYC sometime? :)

this reminds me of your post about unlearning things from art school, and how much i identified with the command to "be precious." that really struck a chord with me!

they're even more anal in person. hahaha, thanks for the goodwill!

i am holding my breath!
and i actually really like 'up all night'- as a piece itself but also i can see an evolution (well from the few pieces ive seen of yours that youve been awesome enough to put up here).

god make me rich so i can buy your paintings and then live happily ever after

oh you're not holding your breath...

up all night is falling apart. literally. it's been on a wall in my house for several years, and has never fully been adhered properly to anything archival. that plus the amount of grief it caused me probably makes me hate it more than its value as an object. plus i'm just over it with text. that's what livejournal is for!

thanks for the comment!

Wow, those monkeys look like photographs! myglock_yrface October 26 2006, 15:52:31 UTC
I really love your work, Dan. I'm about halfway through Melancholy of Resistance now! I am going to splurge on a Japanese poster of Werckmeister Harmonies, I think.

well, thanks to uberdionysis, i've discovered that the monkeys are actually photographs. oh well, they still rule.

nice icon, by the way... reminds me of my own longhair days. hahaha...

DEFINITELY let me know what you think of melancholy... it's slow going, but i think it's one of the best books i've read maybe ever. i think i'm gonna rewatch the film later this week. i can watch movies again, now that i'm done with my art homework for a little while...

i really like the texture of the mountain/rock thingies in the fore and background.
mmm, joshua tree came up recently and i thought of you. dan loves a desert. (the cacti here reminded me)
and ya know, i give my eternal devotion to pigeons.

yeah, i miss the desert so so so bad... i guess that's why i've taken to painting them. if i really get my shit together, maybe i can whip up some grant money and head west for a while and just draw it for a few weeks. that would be great.

also, did you email me recently? i keep getting notice on yahoo that i have an unread message, but i can't find it anywhere. it came up after my last message to you, and i hadn't emailed anyone else that day, and i don't think you responded. anyway, if you sent me something and then never heard from me i apologize.

i wish you could see that new one in person!

ok enough art... thoughts on marie antoinette please!

if you get money to go to the desert, i'm coming with you.
i haven't written you since the last time so i don't know what's up with yahoo.?

i will write about 'marie antoinette' this weekend! i was thinking i would do it today but i don't have time. girlhood, music, etc. it will be done. don't expect anything too fancy though...i'm not you!
