Daniel may be too sick to leave the hospital, and he have been forced to stay in bed and rest, but at least in his dreams, he could go anywhere he wanted and no one could tell him otherwise ( Read more... )

After vanishing from Starscream's presence, Duskwing flies cross-country, homing in on Daniel's life and spark. He flies invisibly--no time for teasing mortal jets now.

Folding into his own robotic shape, Duskwing flits through the single-story ranch house on the outskirts of Autobot City that is the current residence of the U.S. Ambassador to Cybertron. Daniel is... safe. Unharmed, though looking a bit worried, and trying to ask questions of his builder, Carly.

Some human in uniform--Duskwing has never bothered to learn one uniform from the other--is asking her questions, and everyone seem agitated. But unharmed.

Spike, the designer, is missing.

Daniel trudges to his room with a scowl. If his mom knew anything, she wasn't saying so. The officers hadn't been much help, either. For a moment, he wishes he was back in his adult body. Then maybe they'd tell me what was going on, he thinks bitterly. He wasn't just some kid, he was some kid that's been through Hell and back and he had a right to know where his father was.

Daniel looks over at his desk. Amidst the comic books, random papers and other objects of little importance, there's an old photo album buried somewhere. He digs a bit and finds it, sitting on his bed with it and flipping through. q

((whoops, that was totally me, hahaha))

Daniel stops, staring down at a picture of his father and Bumblebee taken a few years before he'd been born. He slams the book shut, grabbing a small communication device off his desk.

"Hey, Bumblebee? It's Daniel," he says into the little speaker after finding the right frequency. "Have you heard anything about my dad?"

Duskwing hovers nearby, watching Daniel from the other side of forever. I promised the kid I'd get a message to his designer to get him rescued, and I did--only it wasn't the real Spike. But they did rescue the kid. So I did what I shoulda done, but it wasn't exactly what I promised to do. I'm supposed to let Spike know the kid's okay, only I didn't, not for real.

What do I do now? Gotta find the real Spike, somehow, and gotta keep the kid safe. Slag, it's splittin' me up again, and there's only one of me! Duskwing fidgets intangibly.

Slag, I can't do it alone! What do I do?

Daniel frowns when he only gets static in reply. "Stupid thing," he mutters, giving it a good knock with his hand, "only works when you don't need--" He pauses, rubbing his arms and shivering. He turns, glancing around the room as if expecting someone to be there. After a moment, he shrugs and sits down on the bed, throwing the communicator carelessly on the floor.

"Bumblebee!!" Daniel snatches up the comm, the ghostly presence forgotten. "Bee, my dad hasn't come home yet. Nobody can find him and we've got the police here and everything, along with some higher-ranking detectives and stuff." He bites his lip. "Have you heard anything? Do you know what's going on?" A sob wells up in Daniel's throat and though he manages to keep it down, his voice still quivers.

"Daniel, calm down!" Bee croons from the comm.

"Daniel...I can't fully explain to you what's going on. At least not like this. All I can say is that...your Dad loves you, Carly loves you, and I love you." He cuts out for a minute then comes back, "I'll stop by in a little bit to give you a better explanation. Till then, stay calm and wait for me."

Daniel sighs. "Okay. I'll see you then." He hooks the comm to his belt for a moment, crossing his arms and sitting on the bed. After tapping his foot anxiously for all of two seconds, he jumps up and heads out into the hall towards the front door. His mother is out in the living room, still talking to detectives ( ... )

Daniel has contacted someone he knows on his comm. Daniel is now sneaking out of the house...

Duskwing follows, invisible as usual. He don't trust the guards. Means something's up. An' if he's not going to stay put, and the guards aren't trusted, I really can't go off looking...

Duskwing opens a comm channel that isn't exactly a comm channel. // Hey, Blackstar? Youse got a moment? 'Cause I, uh, could use an opinion.//

A bare moment of silence, and then, // Yeah, sure. No problem. You need me to come to where you're at? //

// I dunno. See, I got two different things I gotta, an' there's only one of me. So I don't see how I can do this. Gotta keep an optic on this kid and keep him out of trouble--'cause if I take an optic off him for one microsecond, someone will probably steal him. But I promised to deliver a message to his designer a while back, only the guy I delivered it to turned out to not be the right guy after all, and the message is kinda out-of-date anyway, but I didn't do what I promised to do an' dat's been buggin' me, see? //

// Ya think maybe I should ask the kid what to do about the message? He's the one that asked me to send it in the first place. //

// Yeah. Yeah, that sounds like it would work. Where's the guy you were supposed to give the message to, anyway? //

Duskwing frowns to himself. //That's part of the problem, Blackstar. The guy we thought was him isn't really him, he's a copy, sorta. Nobody I know knows where the guy is. An' I don't wanna have to be the guy to tell the kid his designer isn't the real guy--it's gonna upset him something bad. So explainin' to him why I couldn't deliver his message, when he thinks I did, is kinda hard. //

There's a moment of thoughtful silence before Blackstar responds.

// Slag... Then that won't work then. Someone's gotta be looking for the kid's designer though, right? What if you keep watching the kid, keep him outta trouble, and I go see who's looking for his designer. When they find him, I can let you know so you can come keep your promise or something. Would that work? There's only one of you, but there's two of us. //

There's a very long silence as Duskwing thinks about that.

//I think I can handle that, yeah. The guy they're looking for, the kid's designer, is the human Ambassador guy. Spike Witwicky.//

Another long silence. //I found out about when Starscream asked me to keep an eye on what Red Alert and Frostbite were up to. They were investigatin' stuff and found it out, so they might be the guys to check.//
