Yuppers. That's the incest drama. Remove the incest and it sounds made me for me, add it and not touching(sadly)
What makes KimuTakuy mesmerizing is that he attractiveness isn't in his looks(though he is good looking) but in his presence, even in stills. He is very much "larger than life"
...don't the two of them not know they are siblings, until the end when it's too late (and I think she never finds out, anyway). To me, that makes a diffrence, fiction wise.

I believe so. It make HUGE difference in how you perceive the characters and the story, but the end result is the same. It also seems that the longer they don't know, the worse it plays out for the characters...kinda "punishment for ignorance"
Yup, that's the incest drama amongst Kimura's lot. :) It's not exactly one of my favorites, but that first PV was so beautifully done - perfect scene choices for the lyrics and everything! - it kind of makes me want to go back and rewatch it. And I haven't rewatched it since I first saw it two years ago. ;P It's a well-done drama and not something you really expect from Kitagawa Eriko, but damn she totally pulled it off. :)
Oh, it's a Kitagawa Eriko drama? I tend to really like her stuff!
I thought that first MV was incredible, and I haven't even seen the drama and know very little about it ('Kimura is a cook' and 'there is incest' sums up the total of my knowledge). Good things happen when you type in 'kimura takuya mv' into youtube at 2am.
I really want to watch this. I have no idea if I'll like it or not (it's hit and miss for me with acclaimed dramas. Some I really get the fuss with and some I don't) but at least it looks intense and very interesting. And as everyone knows, I am a complete sucker for angst.
I heard: "Her brother is a detective and thinks he's a murderer but they fall in love even though her brother thinks he's guilty." *ZOOM!!!* "But then you find out they're really siblings at the end." *SCREECH!!!*
I know what you mean about the hit and miss with "big" dramas...so far, My Girl, Pride and ISWAK are the only ones I really get why they're big(hmm...unles Nobuta, Sapuri and Gokusen are considered "Big" them I get)
Nobuta is considered big and so was Gokusen. I get the latter, the former not so much.
I get most of kdramas' fame but not all. Love Story at Harvard is excruciatingly dull.
Kitagawa Eriko wrote a number of awesome dramas, among them Tatta Hitotsu No Koi (with Kame, one of my faves), Orange Days (supposed to be really good), A Beautiful Life (with KimuTaku, the one I love so much I am afraid to finish), Long Vacation (with KimuTaku).
I'm intrigued by your summary! I really want to watch it now, but I'm a bit intimidated. Is it too dark to really enjoy? Do the OTP get any really good moments, or are they constantly in pain? Is the ending satisfying?
There are lighter moments but overall it is a very dark dorama. Every single character is in pain at one point or the other. As for the ending .. yes it is satisfying in the way that there is no other ending than that of Ryo in the series, he is beyond happiness and the right to live. If you have watched the music vids, they spoiler the ending quite a bit. IMHO I found it more satisfying then let's say the ending of Nemureru Mori (Sleeping Forest) where I found Naoki's death totally unneccessary.
I have so little ability to tolerate angst and tension that I usually avoid dramas like this (plus incest is on my must-to-avoid list). But the MV was tasty.
I think I might have to watch Million Stars at some point, especially since I've lately been in a mood for good angsty dramas. Just witness me marathoning 1 Litre of Tears recently. I've still got the last two episodes to watch, but intend to finish watching it tonight after I get home from work.
I just got a dvd set of S.O.S a few days ago, but haven't yet started on it. I haven't yet decided if I want to watch it or Antique Cake Store first, though the image of Takki as an ex-boxer (images of shirtless boxer!takki in the beginning of almost every episode!) who decides to become a chef is very tempting... :)
Oh yes, 1 Litre is definitely a major tearjerker. It's like the makers designed it so that the audience would have to cry at least once per episode.
I watched the first episode of Antique last night and it was veerryyy sloooow, but I think it'll be watchable with some judicious use of the fast forward button :). Besides, Takki looks gorgeous in it, which is always a plus in my books.
Since I'm still watching 1 Litre, I didn't want to start on SOS yet, because I didn't want to watch anything else with even the slightest hint of angst in it.

I agree re KimuTaku. He is good looking but not stunning. It's his manner and intensity.

Must watch it now.
Weird that he doesn't object to murder, but does to incest. Hmmm...

A lot of dramas I checked out purely because of MVs.

SOS is supposed to be much better than Antique.
