OK, Prison Break and/or Queer As Folk. Yay or Nay? I am thinking of dling or Netflixing, but don't want to have a Felicity or Dawson's Creek mark 2 where they made my head hurt ( Read more... )

I'd say yay to both of them ;) I personally am in a Queer as Folk mood so I'd say that this is a totally yes! ;)

Well, I never watched QAF (or rather I couldn't really stand it). So that's a good sign for you. I hear the fandom was very fanatic of their OTPs. And I know a lot of people found the main character to be sex on legs. I think there were also a lot of incredibly romantic and angsty scenes (like dancing at the prom together).

On the downside there probably is a lot of promiscuity and I think the ending was kind of vague in a way that didn't really satisfy either show.

On the plus side it might be the kind of show (like BSG) where you can always attach to a side pairing.

Prison Break, well, you already have an impression of it. Downside here of course is that it is still ongoing. Then again, Prison Break season 2 premiere is in a week. So you might want to check out just that, see if it appeals to you and makes you interested enough to want to check out the whole season 1. (season 2 will have a very different concept and a bunch of new characters, like the FBI agent who is hunting them)

Then again, it could be another Felicity ;D I don't know why, I'm all about the guys making out, but something about QAF just gave me a headache.

BTW, a lot of people seem to think the the UK version of QAF is much better (writing and actingwise), but that the actors on the US version are hotter.

[as far as I can tell, UK and US version are not identical, they kind of start out as the same constellation but sort of evolve apart]

Oh my God. Don't remind me. Just thinking of that show gives me hives. I think I am going to check out a QAF disc and see what I think. As to PB, I think it's something I might enjoy on DVD as I can forward past scenes that don't appeal. I don't find Wentworth Miller Teh Sex, so that incentive isn't there much (Dominic Purcell, OTOH...:P)

LOL :D

so that incentive isn't there much (Dominic Purcell, OTOH...:P)I still say wait for season 2 then. For one they shave his head for the execution in 14 and it's like really, really, really short. Unappealing short. Looking naked short. And for second, they will finally be wearing civillian clothes this season and Dominic finally get out of those unflattering Prison Overalls (I swear the ones they gave him were even fuglier than what they were giving everybody else ( ... )

I haven't seen PB, but I loved QAF. Debbie, there in my icon, is my role model. (I played her on fandome_townies)

Yes, there is a lot of promiscuity. Brian sees no reason to act like a woman or a hen-pecked het male. He is a man, by golly, and he's gonna prove it by marking his territory on every gay man in Pittsburgh. The others flirt around but are mostly looking for Mr. Right.

It is rather soap-operaish, esp. in regard to the female characters. It deals with a lot of issues, both explicitly and implicitly. And it really sort of found its stride around second and third season.

The ending was very satisfying, IMO, and true to the characters. The Brian/Justin shippers who wanted them OMG!GetMarriedAndHaveAssBabeeeeeezzz! hadn't been paying attention--or rather they thought their bad boy was redeemable. He's not. That's why I love him.

As Sharon Gless said in the interviews "Sucks that it's over."

Yay. Thanks for an educated opinion. I always knew that having most of your info come from Brian/Justin/Michael ship war write ups on fandom_wank probably isn't the best way to get a true impression of the show :D

So, are there happy endings for other couples? I'm guessing a bunch, right?

Deb gets one.
Michael gets one.
Emmett just comes full circle.
Ted... I can't for the life of me remember what happened with Ted.
Mel and Lindsy sorta... I consider it happy.
I'd even call Brian and Justin a happy ending, but not a shippy one.

I haven't tried "Queer as Folk" and I just couldn't get into "Prison Break." So, I guess I'm not much help :-/
