India does Othello. And it has to be seen to be believed

Just got back from Omkara,, India's take on Othello, set among the political underworld of Uttar Pradesh and WOW. This has knocked off Fanaa from my favorite movie of the year spot. Actually, it's pretty much in the running for my favorite Bollywood movie ever ( Read more... )

Perfect review, as always. It really was an amazing movie. All the scenes you pointed out will stay fresh in my mind for a long, long time. Especially the swing ending.

He has the body to die for and I think it's the first movie he's removed his shirt for ever but it should be mandatory. I KNOW! Omg, you noticed this, too? I was definitely drooling!

He is a master manipulator (foreshadowed by his skill at that game.
Friggin' excellent point. He really does play the people around him like marbles, throwing one at the other to make it go to a certain direction, all of them falling far apart from each other until there's no way of going back.

And god, he's so nasty. I almost feel annoyed he's played by Saif, who is really hot, because it's hard to turn my brain off the fangirl mode (especially with all the shots of shirtless men, Langda's biceps in every friggin' frame, police uniforms and the cruelest one of them all - making Langda canonically great in bed. Mr Bharadwaj, I hate you).

I don't think she really understood his question earlier, she just thought they were having one of their fightsOh man, Dolly and Omi. I both love and hate how she doesn't say anything/much in the climax. She just puts her hands together, begging, and that look. Such a killer ( ... )

You are so right in your write-up, when you write that at the beginning he doesn't appear fully-formed evil (though he is striking) and in a way, just as Omi sinks deeper and deeper into jealousy and loss as Omkara goes on, so does Langda plumbs thepreviously undiscovered depths of awfulness and manipulation.

Normally, I find Saif incredibly hot, but not in this movie. It's the demeanor, the manner and the way he carried himself. He is unrecognizable as the sweet, impulsive, spoiled boy of Parineeta.

She just puts her hands together, begging, and that look. Such a killer.

I know. Kareena is perfect in the role. She took a role that could have been completelt a non-role, a catalyst that is not interesting in and of itself and broke my heart. Movies like this make me annoyed every time she accepts a Poo role.

Makes me want to write pre-film Omi/Dolly fic.

Please! *besgs shamelessly* Oh yes, I also bought their love from the moment he collapsed at her door, all the while looking at her with those intense eyes of his.

I think Indu is one of those things that will make people say "Omkara > Othello" because Emilia in the original has hardly the sort of role that Indu ends up playing. It actually interests me quite a bit, to be married to someone that evil and not know.. And seeing as how Langda is sort of a vile person even without the manipulation, it's sort of difficult to see what she saw in him. Then again, could've been arranged. (Sorry, that was semi-random ( ... )

Oh wow, I didn't realize that Saif and Kareena are doing a movie with the Omkara director. Wow. That's incredibly awesome. Oh my God.
